Kris will fighting this stuff off for years!! Sounds like he'll need a full time copyright lawyer, sheesh.

I'll get PHR's legal department on this one. I didn't place a copyright on it since it was for PHR, so it is probably their battle on this one.

If you guys remember that polish company that used one of my renderings for their box art, I'm still waiting to see what comes of that. My lawyer hasn't gotten back to me in a good while...so we'll see!

You need to contact your lawyer anyway. On both cases. Your name is on the picture in question here. It's right under the car in plain view.

I saw that too, Allen. Have you trademarked your name, Kris? That could be another violation.

Its disgusting to see others benefiting from your work Kris. Someone probably paid big bucks to have a webmaster design that website. Rather than do the work themselves they just rip off your work from the PHR's website.

I know its common, still ticks me off.

Scott,

My name's not trademarked yet, though that's a good idea.

The problem I ran into with the boxes was that my work wasn't a registered copyright. It's still copyrighted work, but had it been registered, they would have been fined in the hundreds of thousands...so lesson learned.

As for this one, I will talk to my lawyer and see what he says.

Thanks for bringing it to my attention David!

No problem Kris, I ran across a thread on LS1Tech (http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=398323&page=1&highlight=horton) (I was looking for info on the new Camaro) that mentioned it and some of the other guys wondered if you knew about it so I thought I would check :D .

Hey Kris,

You have more rights than you think you do with just a copyright. According to the copyright law, all you have to do is write copyright 2005 Kris Horton or something like that and it's copyrighted. That entitles you the right and ownership of that for life and 70 years after your death. You may not be able to go after this person for money or anything BUT you can write him a cease and desist letter making him take it off. If you want I can email you or anybody else the word document info I have on this.

Another thing Kris, if you trademark your stuff make sure you are incorporated too. I've been working for enough companies and dealt with legal and licensing issues for years now so If I haven't dealt with a specific issue or don't know something about it I can find out specifics.

John,

Thanks for the info. I'd love to take a look at the document if you could send it! I will write up a letter to these guys. Not after money in this case, but it should be taken down. They should know better...especially since they are a GM dealer. I'm sure GM wouldn't be thrilled having my concept on a dealership's site.

I'm sure GM could get them to take it down faster. :_paranoid

I reckon so...

I'm sure all the big car companies keep their lawyers locked in a pit and feed them only blood until a time comes when they need their services...

No problem Kris, I have it in my email at work. I'll email it to you Monday. Jeff, the licensing guy I work with at GMP emailed it to me. Hope it helps.
