Don't know if this has been posted before but it looks like Ken Epsman has sold the 1969 Penske/Sunoco Camaro which has been recently seen at Bruce Canepa's place in Santa Cruz...this took place around December.

I understand the new buyer lives on the west coast and has a couple vintage Can-Am cars he runs so hopefully we'll see it out and about here again soon...maybe at Wine Country and the Historics this year.

I'm hearing the selling price is just north of $1M (the '70 Jim Hall Chaparral Camaro was also sold for right at that same figure last year) so obviously, known vintage T/A cars are still commanding strong money.

I'm debating on posting pictures of the big crash involving the Sunoco car a few years back @ Infineon...maybe I'll wait just a bit longer.

Come on John, you know we are sick people when it comes to crash photos--(it's the only reason for watching Nascar quite frankly)---post them up immediately--

It's nice to see a second gen go for that kind of money too.
I hope the car gets some use and isn't hidden from the public.

Post those pics, I know I'd also like to see them. I love the T/A cars and anything to do with them.

John,
That picture is nasty! Also, that picture reminds me of the bent metal at Goodwood a few years back.

Yep, I've seen 'em. Could be problematic if the new owner knew how they were acquired and that they were published for all to see.

Call me tomorrow and I'll tell you a story about a similar situation that ended very badly ... financially very badly.

Cheers,
Mary Pozzi

John,

Any idea what they're asking for the Smokey Chevelle?

No,but Mark Mountanous has already sold the Chaparral Camaro from his stable and the Jerry Titus '70 Firebird is at Canepa's too.I'm shocked he's selling the '66 Chevelle but his collection is always changing.
Mark just bought a '66 Nova that competed in TA...only Nova to run in the series.

Oh and...Mary said no on the pictures so no it is.

I don't get it. Why does it matter if the car was wrecked or not? It's a race car so of course it will have substained some damage over its life on the track. If someone is being ripped off and the car is not what it was claimed to be, throw the person who is lying under the bus. There should be no room in this hobby for anyone doing that.

I have no knowledge of what the conversation between Ken and the new owner went like, one would assume the buyer did his due diligence.
Maybe he doesn't know of the extent of the wreck, sure wouldn't want to cause Kenny any troubles.

Does any one know the name of the new owner? Is he from Colorado?

Dunno...will try to find out.
All I know if he owns some historic Can-Am cars and resides in the west coast somewhere.

That car is so cool!!!. Men like Smokey,Mark Donahue,Junior Johnson,Holman & Moody,The Wood Bros. Really set the ground work for some of us car guys today. If they needed a part they just built it. They made it work. Thanks for posting it.

I'm sure everyone knows it was wrecked pretty good. Poorly restored though. Really should be restored again from what I have seen.

You know I didn't see it when it ran Wine Country last year Charlie so I can't comment, obviously sounds like you saw it and didn't approve.

Judging how badly it was wrecked,I understand they tried smoothing the wrinkles out of the floorboards to show they were original although I'm not certain that was the original metal.

Damn shame if that car wasn't put back correctly...

Plenty of wrinkles still there and plenty of hardware store bolts as I remember.
