I see lots of you guys putting in solid motor and tranny mounts.

I would think that it would shake the %$#@! out of everything and raise the fear of cracking..

just for track use? benefits? downfalls?

why are you guys doing it?

Hey TDRV,
I have had 69 camaros since I was 16 , Last 25 years and on any high performance cars, I have had solid motor and trans mounts together and NEVER cracked anything, I know they say not to run the 2 items together, But I never have listened to anyone anyways. Most all my cars have been big block 4&5 speeds and all high perf cars got aluminum body mounts to. Cars shaked a little but That I think was more from compression and cam lifts.
Now if its a mild street crusier type car, then I would use the rubber mounts just for the smoothness, I know my wife likes ridding in the pace cars better then any radical tubbed out prostreet cars we have had.

I fabbed the ones in my car, I like mounting everything solid to the frame so exhaust can me mounted solid etc. etc. I had a Nova that had solid motor mounts and a urethane trans mount no problems there so I guess I will try solid! I plan on running a 385ci/T56 combo.......

I too have had solid motor mounts and a urethane tranny mount. My fully balanced motor with solid mounts shook the car less than my buddies rubber mounts and non balanced motor.

Cool definalty some food for thought

I thought for sure that would be a recipe for dissaster but maybe not.. I know with rockcrawlers it sure is, but there all geared down torqueing over huge boulders :D

so no one here has had trouble from this??

I may mount my motor with a transplate or the likes then :D

i have an alum front motor plate, alum midplate, urethane trans mount, and "struts" to keep it form flexing the plates forward/backward on hard acceleration or braking(overkill...yeah, probably)

(overkill)

ya probably...........lol

I am thinking of adding a midplate to my set up!

How much power?

"should" be around 650-700 hp, as its basically a small nascar sb2 with less compression.

So with my build.. (really light, not a race car, 4cyl roughly 180hp.. basically a go cart with a body)

What would you guys do? I dont think I need a mid plate and a front motor plate :P

I could actually solid mount the motor to the front subframe, wich is mounted to the rest of the car through rubber bushings, it would be solid but still be cushioned from the main chassis. good plan?

18r has the 4 threaded bosses on the sides of the block for factory mounts, i would build a plate off that with ears to fit over a fabbed mount on the "subframe". instead of 100% solid, pick up some poly leaf spring bushings... and slide them into the correct size round tube, then from the tube sleave to the frame with whatever works best. a simple remove the bolt and lift "up" method for removing the engine. im sure you can whip up something creative and functional...judging from the rest of the project.

Thanks ;)

No problem doing that, I was thinking of the optimum setup, but with just a couple of little squirrels making love under the hood, I might as well go for the comfort set up.

well the poly in a sleave isnt gonna flex at all...it might knock the vibration down a lil... but i wouldnt count on it. i personally think its a better way to go than metal on metal.

it might be a pita for r&r'ing...but you could forget the 2 piece set up and do somethin super clean like travis' 64 travis' engine mount (http://www.lateral-g.net/members/ball/102_5617.JPG)

yah, actually that pic is what got me to all the solid mount thinking...

I am actually building a link suspension in the front of a customers 4x4 right now with those bushings and sleeves, so ive go tthat covered ;)..

Ill run out and snapp some pics right now :d BRB
