Some of you guys remember me whining about my deuce not long ago.. and since i just got a temp job the next 2 months before i start my new one in march, i figured it was time to look into a project... (ive been beating myself over the deuce i sold every day.. and the PT-malibu, drives awesome.. but it just isnt as close to my heart as the old streetrods... )
so i have this stuff left over: 1 Ls1 engine, heads cam etc 535fwhp. paddleshiftet 4l60e, pt converter, vintage air magnumIV.. etc etc...
and i found a nice rust free 35 ford hump back with wood replaced.. The guy i bought it from has an old school hot rod shop and he will chop it 2.5 inches ,cut and fit doors, roof, finish all welding, cut down window frames.. and hang doors suicide style..
Ill be doing the frame, plan was to install the mustang 2 IFS with SPC arms and a shortened jag suspension... but i talked to my suspension parts pusher who offered to help do some suspension geometry enginering.. so im looking at doing C5/6 front and rear uprights with some off the shelf arms.. but doing the x members in house and mounting the arms to get the handling as good as the malibu...
and with 450 rwhp it should be a fun car :-)

the IRS will propably be a bastard between C5/6 and ford explorer... possibly im prety sure a rear mounted tranny/torque tube will be cost prohibitive....

Deuce -
I have a 37 Ford MINOTTI project.... and I was going to originally install a C4 Corvette IRS... but every single frame guy I talked to said "DON'T DO IT"... It's not that it's complicated or expensive... their reasons were more about suspension geometry and ride... mostly to do with the narrowing of the half shafts etc. So I know have that IRS (a nice Dana 44 Hvy duty unit with 3:42's) rolling around on a dolly. Any takers? LOL
Anyway - I had a local shop build me a whole new chassis after discussing this chassis with every shop that builds 'em. I talked to RS - Pete and Jakes - etc...
I wanted a "driver" - put stuff in the trunk - the wife in the passenger seat - and head to San Diego... So I went with INBOARD mounted leaf springs - a Currie Ford 9" with Strange nodular 3:73's - Speedway Engineering torsion style sway bar - Heidts Superride front with coilovers - Wilwoods all around - including manual master (floor mounted) and a power rack... They talked me into the leaf spring rear end because then I can load the trunk up and not be bottoming out etc... so we'll see... I'm keeping my finger crossed. I've got an LS6 that I'm going to use - but I'm going to carb it I think... So super simple hot rod... with a 700r4 that I have...
Jason Rushforth has to come up with new paint and wheels etc... this is so old skool suck... but I bought it just as a project so didn't care.

your propably on to somthing... the IRS is just me trying to overcomplicate matters anyway, i had a jag IRS on the deuce. and it was so freakin heavy you wouldnt believe...
i will look into some different options rear suspension wise, but leafs are out  perhaps a 3 link?
not sure how much cornering potential teh mustang 2 IFS has, and what one can do to optimise geometry...

I agree with the Mustang II front - but there aren't many "options" for these frames - they're so narrow. Nobody is making anything that I've found that is ready for some rights and lefts. Still - with the LS6 up front - it won't weigh much either - and I can get a decent tire up there. In this project I'm moving the battery and the A/C and all the amps etc to the rear - and I think I'm going to do the fuel tank between the trunk and the front seats... trying to get a little better weight distribution.

you might want to poke around on the Factory Five website & check out the suspension on their street rods for some ideas.

Greg:
I think you could try using a 2004 Ford Mustang Cobra R rear suspension, a pushrod suspension, BUT if you use it you would have to reinforce the V-Arms to handle the weight of the pure steel of the car, because those suspensions are built for lightweight track cars. But really, you should try it,also the differential is really strong and with minor modifications you can make it handle +2000 HP.

Good luck with that Chevy! I bet you can do amazing work on it.
C5 drivetrain and suspension FTW:rofl: :willy:

I cannot see writing off a history of good performance and quality products based on one incident. Please re-read what I wrote. No where did I say "copy it". I said to check it out for ideas.

I knew what you meant - was just poking you.... the FF crash was a driver error not the suspensions fault....
I inspected the FF 33 for about an hour or more on more than one day while at SEMA... What I finally figured out was... it's got to be a foot, or more, WIDER than a regular 33/34

wonder how much wider i can make the fenders and still keep the look... i could weld in a "strip" of steel on the horizontal part of the fenders and runningboards...
would 2.5 inches look out of place??
and who can do me a couple of renderings.. not just cool looking ones.. but realistic... with a 2.5 inch chop and widened fenders....
ive attaches some pics of one with a 2.5 inch chop and stock fenders... how much wider would you guys go?

Wider fenders would look cool but are you thinking 2.5 inches EACH or overall? Overall would look right with the rest of the body scale, but that much added to each would look like too much IMO. Just my .02.
Very cool car, I can't wait to see what you do to yours.
