I saw this the last couple days, had to take the wife back last night for her to see. It's very cool, never seen anything like this. The mass of birds is much larger in person, the video makes it seem smaller.

That is really neat. It's amazing that so many birds in one spot can look so fluid in movement. I didn't catch it but did you ever hear an estimate on the bird count?
Just don't be the guy to park under that, can you say "totally destroyed paint job"?

they estimated 500,000 birds or so. Yeah, they move fast and tight together, yet never hit each other.............. :wow:

very neat. Do a search on the starling and you should find info on the bird that explains how they got here and how really terrible they are. Think pigeons are bad? These things are much much worse. Still dang cool
I do have an off topic question for you west coasters though. They said it's around 4:30 there in the video. Why does it get dark so early over there? It doesn't look like that until 5:30 here. I noticed that while in Vegas a few couple months ago. It got dark very early in the afternoon.

While Starling "swarms" are very cool to watch, you can also view them from another perspective: invasive non-native species, no limit, shoot 'em year round. Even the Department of Fish & Game agrees! :P
Further south down near Patterson around this time last year they had some groups they estimated at 1.5-2 million birds. That was very cool to watch. It's hard to believe how many birds are in the air at once.
Bring a hat if you intend to get close. :)

Yeah, if people knew how horrible those things are to the US environment, they'd be waiting with flame throwers........

We have them here in North Texas as well. They are amazing to watch. My kids like to watch them as we go down the road. They have taken over an area by me that is on a long, flat stretch of road with very little houses so the damage to property isn't as bad, I guess.
Each bird reacts to the bird next to them but it looks so fluid you would think that they would be falling out of the sky from collisions with each other.
