Looking for some suggestions for a motor for my 67 convertible. I was looking at the ZZ4 crate motor from GM but I have a buddy who says he can save me $1K building it himself. Is it worth the extra money to buy the GM motor? I dont want anything too radical, maybe something around 350 horse. What do you guys think?

Any suggestions on where to purchase it at? I live in IL.

I am sure shipping is going to be nasty on it.

I would have to agree with Rick. Go with the General. For the $$,12 month/12,000 mile warranty you can't go wrong. My brother works for Chevrolet & sells alot of them.

You may want to look at dealerships in your area or check Jegs. Do some looking around before buying. Some places are quite abit cheaper than others.

A friend of mine just bought his ZZ4 from Jeg's a couple of months ago for his '57 Nomad. Jegs even beat our local dealers buy enough it was still a little cheaper after including shipping. Plus he got it in like 3 days. It is definitely worth it. Nothing like having money to burn! :unibrow:

With all my engine problems, I wish I'd taken the crate route. Go with the ZZ4. Good deal. Warranteed. Lots of inexpensive replacement parts.

Have a look at Pace (http://www.paceparts.com) or Scoggin-Dickey (http://www.sdpc2000.com) .

Shipping shouldn't be to bad,at worst $200-300.ALso check to see if any of your local dealers can get you one at a good price.Thats may save you a few bucks on shipping.Goodluck :)

I like the ZZ4 - lots of potential down the road. I think Car Craft or someone did a buildup a few years ago with a solid roller, etc to make over 500 HP with AFR heads I believe. Have the article somewhere.
