Anyone have a Kindle2 or Kindle DX. If so, thumbs up or down??

My wife has the 2 (started with original), swears by it. A slight curve getting used to reading books that way but once you get used to it, definately better, more convienent, all that. She has corrupted quite a few of her friends, once they put their hands on it a take a test drive, they're hooked.

Wife insists it would be a definate point scorer under the tree.
The amount of downloadable content for this thing is growing by huge leaps everyday, not just books, you can get tons more stuff.
... and Rad, if you keep the wi-fi turned off, those D-cells in it last forever:rofl: .

Kindles are awesome. I've got the original, my daughter has the 2.

Look for colleges to go "Kindle-based" over the next several years, where each class has to ensure the textbook is available via Kindle. Book costs will drop by 75% in that scenario. Imagine your kids not carrying around 3 5 lb. textbooks in their backpacks. Here's the best part: if you lose it (or it gets stolen), you can regain all the books that were stored on it. And since you can password protect it... there's less incentive for thieves to take it.

You'll see more of them in the future.

We have 2 of the orig. ones here and they are absolutely great if you like reading books. Browse the Kindle store,find a book you like and it downloads to the kindle in about 30 seconds max. They are also always cheaper than paperback or hardbound. Battery lasts forever before it needs recharging, automatically bookmarks where you left off. Stores all the books you could ever possibly read. For those not familiar go to www.amazon.com and look for Kindle.

After you purchase it, are there any other fees other then when you get new books? I see that you can read the paper as well, How much does that cost? WSJ? New York Times?

We bought one for my Mom's boyfriend last year for X-mas. He is kinda of weird about technological things, so I wasn't sure how it would go over. He was a little skeptical at first. I just saw them last weekend and asked him how he liked it. He said that he wouldn't want to have to do without it. He travels a lot and would normally take 2 to 4 books on vacations etc. with him. Now he just takes the Kindle.

I should probably buy one for myself. I need to get back to reading more!!!!!!

There are no fees other than the price of each book you purchase. All your purchases are also backed up at Amazon. If you ever replace your Kindle etc you can re download all your books. Publishers now also let people share kindle books with one another. Example when you go to buy the book online it might say"This book can be shared with 6 people". Means you can go on the site and send your copy to someone elses Kindle. I own two Kindles so when I get done reading a book I can send it to my Wife's and she can read it. Since I own both Kindle's there is no limit on sharing.

As for newspapers you have to check their site. There is a monthly fee for newspapers, magazines etc just like you would pay normally. you can have the paper downloaded to your Kindle each morning. The Kindle will also read the book to you if you don't want to read. It had text to speech. There is also a keypad for writing notes etc. You can also easily change the text size if you forgot your glasses etc.

I bought it for my wife a couple years ago. It was the BEST gift Ive ever bought her and Ive bought her some prety nice stuff. She LOVES it and Ill be buying the upgrade this year.
