Hey guys. Im not a new member here but I've been lurking and posting in here and there. I'm thinking its officially time for a project build thread. As the saying goes, "All work and no play makes me a dull boy.". After owning the car for years its been through a lot of changes, stages and swaps. I paint cars for a living and do a lot of side work on the weekends. sometimes i i feel like im burnt out on working on cars from messing with them all day and I just want to be able to enjoy my camaro. This time is the last time around! All work and no play has made me a dullboy. So I've officially named my project "Dullboy".

I find a lot of these builds to be rather intimidating budget-wise but i always try to make to due. Best bang for the buck is what i strive for. Ill try to find some time and post up a lot of pics and procedures i went through. Im about half done with it now and really hope to cruise it around feb/march, although it will prolly be more like next december! I better get back to work!

Okay -- I'm confused -- you show an LSx motor -- and then some pictures of an MSD distributor... Are you going to run a distributor on top of it being carbed??
Kool project by the way!!
I like the "flat" colors people are doing now... so as a painter - let me ask this - cause people I've talked to with flat paints HATE them now... they say they take more work to keep looking good than nice shiny paint... and most say they wouldn't paint their cars like that again. So I was thinking that maybe the flats are too "open"? What's your thoughts about this??
Killer project. I am also curious about the "flat" paints. What kind of extra care is involved in keeping them looking good? And how does that care differ from a "glossy" paint?

Thanks for the kind words guys. Greg, my photobucket is VERY unorganized! Haha that dizzy was for the old powerplant. I'm using the msd6010 box. As far as flat paint goes. It isn't any more open than regular clear. You can actually buff it to a shine if you wanted to. The main issue with flat is that it really shows oily and water spots. Since there isn't any gloss to reflect anything around, these spots really stick out like a sore thumb. I think hand prints are the worst. The oil from your hands sticks to it like all paint but it's just more noticeable since there's no reflection to distract the eye! You also must concider that it isn't glossy slick and has a very fine texture to it. This also allows stuff to "stick" easier. As far as care. You cant wax it so I prefer to just use nice car soap and water. You gotta pay to play!!

well i fabbed up the trans crossmember. being a 4L80e on top of setting the engine an extra inch back posed quite a problem. i read some where that i could modify a factory TH400 crossmember and it would work, so i bought a "factory" th400 crossmember from a member on this board. well im not saying that it wasnt bolted up to a th400 in a previous car but this crossmember wasnt what i would call stock as the mount had be relocated. i went ahead and used it just for convienence. im working with limited tools and rescources (mostly only hand tools) so i make due with what i have.
the crossmember may be a little over kill but i think it will also help support the chassis. win win. anyways here are the pics.

I need to put the starter, headers and trans dipstick on and make sure it all fits. Then ill probably install my jessel rockers and I'm going to have to get fancy with my cooling lines in the 4l80e! I have a ton of work left on the car but I'm just doing it one chore at a time. Starting up front and working my way back. I'm doing the car alone so it gets overwhelming if I start thinking about everything that needs to be done! Haha

well ive decided i am probably going to sell her.. i am taking care of some tasks on the car before hand though so ill keep updating!
as of lately..
the LSX being moved back an inch posed a problem with the heater core box so i simple clearenced it, flipped it, and rerouted the hoses. i was beating my head against the wall trying to figure out what to do and one of the "hillbillies" up here said just flip it upside down and run it out of the bottom.. some times the simplest solutions are staring us in the face:faint: .
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v313/brantleyb/e59a04f2.jpg
i put a small layer of rtv between the core and the hose to make sure there would be no leaks!

finally got the steering sorted. i was having issues with rag joint/ set back ls1/ half height subframe bushings/ iroc box.
basically i found some d shaft and a steering u-joint. i used four deep plug welds to secure the d-shaft to the stock steering shaft and set screws to hold the flat spots. this way i still have the collapse feature.

-Interior
-Engine plumbing(fuel line, water, and p/s)
-Rear suspension
-Rear spoiler(which is almost done)
-Cut and buff
this list is damn short looking back at the beginning but im tired and out of money! FOR SALE! lol

got the spoiler under way. i used the stock spoiler and diced it up then hit ebay and got hardware CHEAP. i still need to get smaller diameter stainless washers and do a little tidy-ing up.. im either going to use acorn nuts on the front side or drill and tap it and use a machine screw(prolly the second)
still trying to decide what to paint what color..
over all i am happy with the spoiler. its no jake's spoiler but i have less than $60 tied up in the whole thing. i think paint and a little cleaning up is going to go a long way and make it look even better in my eyes..

Well I've decided I'm going to Go back with a factory spoiler for now. I think I'm also going to go ahead and tackle raising the trunk floor a little so can use the caprice gas tank I have. The car is still for sale and i've gotten alot of calls and emails but no one has actually came to see the car yet. I'm thinking I might take the car to goodguys ft worth with a price tag on it and if there's no buyers I might see what it does on eBay. I just wanted to offer I on pro touring And lateral g first.
heres a pic with all the trim and mirrors installed.

I've been wanting to come up and take a look at your car. I'm just down the road from you in the Decatur area. If I didn't have a garage full of 67 Camaro, I would jump on it. So tempting.

thanks guys.. so i went ahead and tackled the trunk. i think it turned out great. from the bottom i made a pinch weld on the sides then turned the floor edge up horizontally on the front and rear. that way i have plug welds from the side then an overlap buttweld on the front and rear edges. after i got it all welded up i used some seam sealer then some rubberized under coating. im thinking about going ahead and "finishing" out the truck with some nice carpeted or vinyled panels and carpeted floor. i will post up some pics here in a few..

so i made a cardboard template then cut it out of metal and rolled all the edges. i trimmed the front and rear tabs for a flush fit
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v313/brantleyb/eecd2f97.jpg
then i marked the trunk and brought the mark down 3/4" for a pinchweld on the sides

the rust in the trunk floor was actually my fault.. word of advice: never keep any cardboard in your trunk.. it will hold water and wrot your floor in no time flat!! i knew better and just overlooked it..:willy:

got the wheels on today. I threw the new rear end under there just quick enough to bolt the wheels on and be able to roll it in and out of the shop. Im going to need to order some longer studs but if I put a 1/2" spacer on each side it looks like the 285/35/19's are going to fit perfect! They fit now with 1/4" spacers but articulation will be a problem.
I dont want to go too fancy with the rear suspension yet because there are too many options.
Anyways, here are some pics. Tomorrow Im going to crank the front adjusters down and block the rear end to see what stance i want. Im thinking I will probably drop it 2" all the way around.
