Remember guys, the end goal of a magazine is to sell advertising space. Sometimes it is necessary to draw attention to yourself to get the job done...and they are willing to draw attention to themselves in the most hideous of ways.
Magazines show no alliances. Remember how they threw Dobbertin under the bus when they claimed Pro Street was dead. They used him (and the others of his ilk) and spit on him when it came time to move on to something new...so they could drum up interest...and sell more advertising space.
You can be their darling one year and their target the next. Don't take it to seriously and enjoy your own car.
With that said, no one can deny that magazines do have pull & can influence trends. What gets covered, gets built by the next generation. You WILL see a lot of cragars/slots, panel paint jobs, & 6-71s next year.

I am not seeing a whole lot of cars built in a PT style around here. I don't really consider mine PT. I think of its more restomod with PT type suspension.

Hey you DFW people.
I realize this is a stretch, but I'll be in the neighborhood the first week of January. Any thing I should put on my agenda (car or otherwise) in my free time?
Oh yeah....nice rides. Love the Olds, but I'm biased because I grew up having to listen to my dad's 442 stories.

I thought we'd see a few more. Here's mine. A little low on horsepower for pro-touring, more resto-mod.

wheels, rubber, brakes, all it takes to have a great time at the track. Don't let all these high dollar builds fool you, that cars pro-touring

Thanks. It has most of the right components - AME subframe, G-Bar rear, C5 brakes etc. The engine is a stock LS1 so that is why it comes up a little short on hp. To make good use of increased hp I think a minitub is needed and when I started the project that was more than I wanted to attempt.
I think most of the DFW cars we see are garage built, presumably due to the lack of shops that do that kind of work compared to the east and west coasts. I went to a local show a while ago, old school is still king here based on what I saw there.

It has an aftermarket subframe and a g-bar and its not pro-touring?
The standard for pro-touring has been set far too high by builders and magazines. The cars are meant to be driven not to rival lamborghini's in price and fit and finish.
If that cars not pro-touring, then my cars stock ;)

It's fun to see some nice, "Other", Muscle cars.
Thanks,

You might check out this sight when you hit town. They put on regular shows and restaurant meeting. There is usually something most weekends if it's pretty.
You can scroll back several months on the calendar and see the types of things they do. They didn't have much in January yet, but many times the new month of the new year is a few days to get published.
Anyway hope this helps.
Ty O'Neal
You might also check Texas Motor Speedway, and see if they have some NASCAR drives you can do, or some SCCA stuff. Sniff around a bit, people here LOVE their cars!

Great rides guys! Going along with what Dane said, Pro-touring or Resto-Mod, doesn't really matter, just enjoy your ride.:D I've seen some other sites where guys are dam near fighting over the definition of pro-touring. IMO, that's getting a little rediculous. Our site here, in the short time I've been on here, I don't remember a urinating contest like other places. To me, that's because of the class of the members and Scott's hard work on here.:lateral:

From the exterior everything appears stock (until I decide on rims and brakes) but only thing original is the body and frame.

I am new to DFW. Looking for fellow Lateral-G members. I will stop by the newbie section to introduce myself. I recently learned about "Cars and Coffee". Any other suggestions for events in the area? Also looking for first gen Camaro experts in the area. Thanks.

Been a while since I've seen this one. Im still around but currently have the car apart for it bi-annual upgrade. It'll be back on the ground in time for Goodguys.
I've considered getting a group of us together to make a raid on a local auto-cross on a regular basis but cant seem to keep my car off the jackstands long enough to stick with it. Maybe this year will be different.

It will be a several year process but just bought a 54 Olds 88 that will be my next project. In the brain storming stage now. I will be working with Ben Hermance to help my get ideas to paper and see my vison.
