Hello. Hope everyone is well. I am looking to buy a nice pro touring car. I have built \ owned a few in the past, and while building them is fun, I do not have the time these days. So, would like to buy a finished car. I see from other WTB posts that providing specifics can be important so here are some:
* Would prefer a 1st gen. Camaro buy would consider other cars
* Needs to have a modern-day drive train. IE..LSX, etc
* Would like the car mini-tubbed
As for how much I have to spend........that is awkward. Put it this way, I have a range I am working with and have cash in hand and am ready to buy now. Mike (Mazspeed) as well as Kevin from CAR and Jimi from FM3 \ Optima should be able to "vouch" for me. Thanks guys.
Please shoot me a PM if you have or know of a nice car for sale.
Thanks,
Chris

Chris...this is the BEST deal I have seen in a decade...might be the steal of the century and he is willing to go less than 55K just FYI

EpikRider,
Hope you are well and thanks for the tip. Very cool car. Just needs an LSX. Great price, as you said. Actually under my budget by quite a bit. If I had the energy and patience I would buy the car and swap in an LSX, just too impatient.
Thanks again and take care,
Chris

Hey Chris,
I'm having my 69 Camaro done by one of the sponsers here, Route 66 Motorsports they are doing a great job. I have no doubt they could build exactly what your looking for. www.rt66motorsports.com or give them a call 815-462-0090 ask for Bill

Its not an Fbody but you should seriously talk to Jody about his 64 Chevelle twin turbo LS2 car. Don't quote me but I think he said 100Kish could buy it about a month ago.
edit I found the thread
If you are still looking for a top notch well-engineered car get ahold of Charley about Camaro X; 69 Camaro with an LS7 and 6 speed, all the goodies, and built and engineered by Mark Stielow. I believe it fits your budget of $100K. You can drive this car to the track, beat on it all day, and drive home, it's that good.

http://img398.imageshack.us/img398/2646/bw3o1pgbgkkgrhgoheyejll.jpg
I'm also going to be putting my twin turbo LS2 Chevelle for sale in the same price range. Originally built and engineered by Mark Stielow also, it's a more subtle old-school look with big power modern underpinnings. Mini-tubbed, paddle-shifted 4L80E, can drive anywhere.

Project Cortez, received your PM, thanks for the shop reference. If only I was patient enough to wait for a car to be built. Thanks though.
Gearheads78, Jody's Chevelle is an awesome car. But, it is just outside my budget. Thanks again for the idea.

Telly,
Hope you are well. I just sold my 66 Fastback so I am left with only the dirt bikes. And, while I should sell these things before they kill me, I love the sport too much to do that. So, no, I have nothing to barter with. Just have cash.

Steve,
Hey man. Hope you are well. And, thanks for the support.
OK, I will just come out with it:
I have $75,000 cash to spend. No loans, no stories, no trades...cash. Used to think that was a lot of cash, not anymore. And, I will have to account for shipping if the car comes from outside CA. Hoping I can find a nice car for that amount. If not, I will either keep saving or be a bit more mature (tough for me) and buy an investment property.
At any rate, I appreciate all of the suggestions and input so far. :lateral:

Lots of nice cars out there... you need to "soul search" what you're after.. a bling-a-rific car that will kill them at car shows?
A more down and dirty PT car that can throw down at a driving event?
A mix of the two?
There are a few nice cars on the market, but don't be shy about asking people if thier car is for sale.. in many cases cars are for sale even if they aren't officially on the market.

Hope everyone is well. Earlier in this thread I posted my budget for a nice, finished pro touring car at $75,000. Circumstances have changed and my budget has increased. Following the sage advice of some very knowledgeable car-guys, I am not saying exactly how much higher I can go, but, my new ceiling is above the original $75,000. So, if you have or know of a nice car that could be for sale, please shoot me a PM.

Hope you are well. Yea, Mike's car is bad a$$ no doubt. The only concern I have it that his car is not an LSX car. Picky I know, but the few things I really want are mini-tubs and an LSX \ T56 drive train. I am sure his eBay auction will go well. It is a very nice car.

Hope everyone is well. As most of you know, I have the patience of a 2 year who has not slept in 24 hours. So, as my search for a nice, finished pro touring car goes on, I am hoping to locate a car sooner rather than later. Adding to my well known impatience, is an opportunity to buy a modern-day pro-touring car (an 07 Porsche GT3) at less than wholesale locally. Very tempting and won't last long. So, I am pulling out the stops in hopes of hearing from someone who has a nice car they are willing to part with. As a reminder, my "gotta haves" include:
mini-tubbed
LSX motor \ T\56 (or TKO) tranny
finished, complete car
New news is what I have to spend. For the right car, I have $115,000. But, it needs to be a pretty darn nice car. Please shoot me a PM if you have or know of such a car as soon as you can.
Thanks much everyone,

I could do LS7, Any subframe of your choice, rear suspension of your choice, A/C, 6 speed, wheels of your choice etc, etc, way less than $115K. Car is in the shop right now being blown apart for a mild build but I can make any changes needed. I can have it on your door for Christmas!!!!

Chris, just curious about the GT3.... are you looking to do extensive tracking? If not, I would highly recommend the TT(996 or 997) over the GT3 anyday, especially if you are used to any kind of serious power, which I know you are.
Sounds like it could be a good investment tho at less than wholesale. :)

Flash,
Hope you are well. I have owned 911 turbos and like them but never owned a GT3. A 997 GT3, which is what I can get a great deal on, is a pretty cool car. Yea, the 997 TT makes more HP but the straight line performance is very close. And, the 997 GT3 can change directions like a rat with tennis shoes on. They also tamed the 997 GT3 a bit and added some creature comforts like heated seats, Nav, etc. Finally, they put PSM in the 997 GT3 so it is can be easier to drive at speed. All that said, I am still looking for a nice pro touring car.
For everyone, please let me know if have or know of a nice one for sale.

I just love that the 996TT aftermarket has come up with so many new options and at better pricing to really add the power in the past couple years. Lots of new good players in that arena and it's great for us consumers.

Rick, thanks for the kind words. Yea, in a perfect world, I could have both the ZR1 and a nice Camaro. Maybe someday....
Jody, many thanks man.
Anthony, I cannot wait until the car arrives. From what I have read and heard, these cars are pretty f'ing fast. Once I have a chance to drive it a bit I will post an "average mans" report on how it runs.
Eric, thanks. Actually, I got -what I think - is a pretty good deal. I got the car for right at 100K with the 3ZR option, jet stream blue paint (one of two extra cost colors), etc. These cars are going for 120K and even 130K with the "market adjustment" some local dealers are applying. The MSRP on my car is 118K so on balance a pretty good deal.
Jeff and gearheads78, I plan to be (somewhat) careful with the car until I get a feel for it. And even after I drive it a bit I plan to live with the traction control on. Would not want my car to look like the either vette in the pics.
Flash68, any mods planned? No, not really. Not too much I can do really. Perhaps lower it a bit and will have a clear bra installed ASAP. I should check in with streetking and find out what he has done with his.
Thanks again guys :lateral:

Gearheads78,
I know that will happen. What is worse, the perfect f-body will probably be in the same transporter with a big for sale sign on it. And, just for extra measure, the truck driver will have to move the Camaro to get my ZR1 out. Bound to happen. But, I will (try) to enjoy this one for a while and in a couple month....who knows.

Way to go on your purchase Chris, seems a couple guys already are getting the vette sickness. If Im not mistaken I think John Parsons bought a Z06 with his nova funds. Ive had a stock Z06 with phadt upgrades for a couple of years now and I love it but the HP dont compare to the blower motor. Look forward to seeing you chime in over at the corvette forum.
Oh yea, dont smoke out your tires to soon your selections are very limited for sizing on the 20s

Jim, Thanks. And, I am hoping the transporter comes straight to CA. That is the plan anyway. They say they will pickup the car tomorrow (Tues) and head to LA for two drop offs and then to me. Cool deal is, if I get on this particular truck it is a husband and wife team so they can share driving duty and thereby go more than 550 miles and 8 hours a day. Loose ETA is Fri. \ Sat. this week. Will post some pics as soon as it hits CA. pavement.
TY, Yea, the color sold me. Looks good on Camaro's huh? Hoping it will look as good on the ZR1.
Dave, I too had a C6 Z06 and loved it. That car was a blast to drive. This car, well I will let you know for sure but I am expecting it to accelerate, turn and stop very well. And, no promises re. sparing the tires.
Take care guys,
Chris

For a 3z you got a pretty good deal, lowest cost Ive seen in the last two months is around 110 but there was one guy on corvette forum recently posting around 100 but hasnt sold yet.

nvr2fst, yea I think I lucked out. In my area (SF bay Area) the dealers want 130K+ for them with the 3ZR package. And, they are getting it. That kills me. I saw one for sale without the 3Zr option and with 2700 miles in silver for 102K and that sold pretty quick I think. All in all, a pretty fair deal.
Telly, thanks. I cannot wait to drive it. Transport is a hassle - what a racket it has become with all of the brokers, etc. - but it should be here sometime next week.
Take care guys,
Chris

Hope everyone is well.
The ZR1 arrived today, 1 day ahead of schedule! Drove it all of a mile home and tucked it away in the man cave as we were between rain showers. Too soon to provide an "average mans" driving impression but I did jump on it in 2nd gear going about 15 MPH and the rear tires just fried, the car launched forward and then started to kick out to the left. OK, lift, breath and find the traction control button. Plan to read about the cars traction control settings, launch control, etc. and then go play a bit. In short, the car seems, well, fast.
Too lazy to re-size some pics so loaded them onto an Internet picture hosting site. To have a good look at these pictures click on any one picture to start a slide show of 5X8 pictures. Then click on any 5X8 picture to see it full screen. Here is the link:
