Hi guys,

I'm new here and looked around a bit and thought I also want to show what I'm working on for so long LOL

..so here's my project-car, my 1979 Monte Carlo 305.

I bought it december 2002 and I'm still on it... I work on it everytime when I have some time and money so

current projects, rework the whole car, rebuild frame/suspension. Body will be painted something like gunmetal (dark grey)..

first steps - I cleaned a lil bit the engine and added some chrome parts..

unfortunately it sits like that over 2 years now. I had to stop work on it because of money issues... but I hope I can start again soon.

Like said before, want to rebuild everything. Want a clean & smooth car - good suspension, good brakes and a nice look.
Also thinking about a manual transmission... 4 speed or a T5 would be nice but here in Germany very hard to find.

Welcome Kev. Maaan, that car brings back memories. My first car was a 1978 Monte Carlo. Bought it when I was 14. It had a 350 in it and it was a super quite running car. I drove it all through high school and until my sophomore year in college and handed it back down in the family. Good luck and keep up the good work.:lateral:

something like that I want it to look like:

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h1/CruizinKev/KevsMonteCarlo/quickchop.jpg

I really like the BOSS 338 rims:

http://i42.tinypic.com/2rc4d8k.jpg

But at the moment I don't know if 18x9.5" Backspace 5" will fit on the rear.

I also bought a 59/60 dashboard to do same like that:

http://i889.photobucket.com/albums/ac98/6teeth/parts/handles0.jpg
http://i889.photobucket.com/albums/ac98/6teeth/parts/handles1.jpg

by pressing the button the handle will come out. what do you think? need to measure the stock handle of the car. these handles are about 6.25" long (from aluminum handle to button)..

I pulled the engine few hours ago and I must say it was easy going for my first time doing that. next step is pull the chassis out the barn, finish the body dolly and roll the body further in the barn so I got more room to play :) will look around for a sandblaster for my frame and so on...

back to work again. today I started scratching all that underbody protection stuff off they put on here in Germany. It helps against rust in winter with all that salt and stuff on streets..

I love it

08-08-2010, 07:53 AM
thx

so yesterday I scraped off the rest of the undercoating stuff and found some ugly stuff:

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h1/CruizinKev/KevsMonteCarlo/2010-08-07/Foto0377.jpg
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h1/CruizinKev/KevsMonteCarlo/2010-08-07/Foto0378.jpg
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h1/CruizinKev/KevsMonteCarlo/2010-08-07/Foto0383.jpg
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h1/CruizinKev/KevsMonteCarlo/2010-08-07/Foto0384.jpg

One of the pre owners did some "repairs" and covered with bondo and undercoating. well I think I have to replace that section.

Already found a good site for replacements:

http://www3.sympatico.ca/conradlozier/

Fortunately the rest of the frame is good and only needs to be boxed and some rewelding of the factory welds.

Anyways I'll sandblast the frame this week, finally! Next weekend I'll test fit my rear wheels (18x9.5 with 295/35) and will see how much work need to do on notching rear frame section.

How much work are you going to have near the front window to make it fit?

"Swoosh"
01-15-2011, 10:06 AM
I alread cut about 2.5" off each end of the dash. Looks like I need to cut 3" off the whole back (matching the curve of the window). I already made a cardboard template of the stock dash and put on the 59 dash.

Now, few days ago I found this sweet malibu:

http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_images/2/3487/1501/21215750181_large.jpg
http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_images/2/3487/1501/21215750180_large.jpg

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2121575/1

I really like the wheels on the car and so I did this photoshop:

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h1/CruizinKev/KevsMonteCarlo/1b.jpg

http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_images/2/3487/1509/21215754015_large.jpg

I really like that "retro-look" with the 15" Rally wheels and I think they also would fit my "retro-theme" on the monte (with my 1959 Impala dashboard & steering wheel and everything)...

what do you guys think?

you know here in germany everybody own/drives new european cars. almost no american cars. all car enthusiasts put big wheels on there. I thought would be cool to bring the oldschool back on streets with the 15" rally wheels ;)

That last pic looks great. 15's still work, they just aren't trendy enough for some & ultimately limit you on tire choice & brake size.

thx :)

I just looked around for some nice retro gauges and came to this:

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h1/CruizinKev/KevsMonteCarlo/parts/classicinstruments_com.jpg

If I'll get this I'll get a KPH instead MPH speedo custom made by classicinstruments.

and well, I found some classic hot rodding looking rims - Eagle Alloy 225. They come in 18x8 (fronts) and 18x10 (rear).

yesterday I sprayed the inside of the frame with some rust protector. its a kind of grease / spray lubricate that keeps away rust and water. I put the rear back together just to see if all parts fit. I'll replace the stock rear end with a 8.5" grand national or better with a ford 9".

today's update. test fitted my 20x10 wheel and oh well it looks SWEET!!!! :D

brought body back on frame, put the stock rear end back on and tested the wheels again - wheel rubs bad on inside of the frame. will try a wheel adapter to make it fit but maybe will also notch the frame a little. but will test with a adapter first.

unfortunately front wheels won't clear C5 calipers/brakes without spacers. but I'll get some 20mm adapters/spacers on rear and will try them on front as well.

thanks! :)

I test fitted H&R 20mm adapters/spacers on each side today. for first on fronts - now the front wheels clear the C5 calipers

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h1/CruizinKev/KevsMonteCarlo/2012-08-04/IMAG0532.jpg

so I tried the 20mm spacer on the rear and it looked like this:

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h1/CruizinKev/KevsMonteCarlo/2012-08-04/IMAG0548.jpg

I think it looks okay and clears the frame now - but I think I want 30mm spacers now :D just added some washers to simulate a 30mm spacer:

Please note there's no weight/interior/doors/engine in the car so thats why the suspension is pretty high right now LOL

oh and here's another cool shot (with 20mm spacers):

the project was on hold for a little while because I've been busy with wedding organisation and stuff. my fiance and me are getting married next week (May 25th) so that's why no updates on the monte for a while. just tried to make the Monte ready for the wedding but oh well.. lot of other stuff came in and plus a long dang cold winter.
but as we speak there are some more new parts on the way to continue work on the car. already got new rear wheels tubs laying and a cammed LS3 6.2 out of a 2011 camaro :D

monte's still waiting for buddy's new garage to move in. in there we finally can start with the body (cut, weld and primer). here's a pic of last weekend.

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h1/CruizinKev/IMG-20130821-WA0000.jpg

now I need your thought on this. since I love the 77 Trans Am and their shaker hood scoops, I thought to add one on my monte carlo hood.

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h1/CruizinKev/KevsMonteCarlo/scoop/scoop0.jpg

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h1/CruizinKev/KevsMonteCarlo/scoop/scoop1.jpg

the 77 scoops also got the sharp edge on top that would match to the monte carlo hood..

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h1/CruizinKev/KevsMonteCarlo/scoop/hood0.jpg

here's a newer monte carlo with a t/a shaker.

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h1/CruizinKev/KevsMonteCarlo/scoop/hood1.jpg

http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h1/CruizinKev/KevsMonteCarlo/scoop/hood4.jpg

I'd try to make it to a functional air intake for the stock LS3 intake - depending on clearance between hood and engine..

what do you think?
