This is in car video of Stielow's timed laps. The problem was his seatbelt came loose so he did just about the whole deal steering with his left hand while holding onto the shifter with his right hand to keep him from sliding out of the seat. At the end of the video he holds the belt up in front of the camera. Enjoy.

I have a funny vision in my head...If he had had his seatbelt on he could have been using his right hand to eat a Ham sandwich.

Watch the key chain on the car keys around the turns. That is a fast car.

Cool video. Without the belt I'm sure he left some time on the table. Car pulls hard. Get everything set, good plan, etc. and a dang seat belt comes loose, now that's bad luck.

So he came in what, 3rd? Driving with one hand? Am I reading the results right, with one hand he ran almost identical runs? 01:49.3 01:49.4

Well, Mark does have "some" track experience.. lol
When we took the Spring Mountain driving class and did the ride along with the instructors they were hauling ass around the track and using one hand to talk on the walkie talkies! lol
Makes you feel like a pretty crappy driver when they drive better with on hand than you do with two.

I noticed two things that looked odd to me. At 4:07 in the first clip is that a guy standing just on the other side of the cones on the right? Also, it looks like a car sitting just off the track outside what I would guess is turn one (4:20 or so in the same clip). Seems odd that there would be people allowed on a hot track not behind barriers...
Very cool !! Amazing car. How I would LOVE to take a lap or two in that! Even as a passenger!

Did Mark think it slowed him down? I'm not saying I'm as fast as Stielow but I ran out there with a 3 point and didn't slide around enough to hinder my driving. I did have both hands on the wheel. Car looks to be damn fun to drive.

I do have a bad habit of one hand driving sometimes. It makes it easier for me to "feel" the tires. When the belts came loose I was trying to sort out if the latch opened or something else. I usually tighten the belts as I drive anyway. So it did rattle me a little with no belts at all. From a safety point of view I would of stopped if it wasn't the only shot we had at it.
I had a good time at the event and I was fun to see old friends and make some new ones.
It was a good time to see people driving the cars hard in the events.
I was very impressed with Charley's times in the 1:52. His race craft is becoming very good. It must be all the practice autocrossing in the Wal-Mart parking lot... lol
If all goes well I'll be back next year in my "new" Camaro as the owner / builder / driver. If I get an invite. :lateral:

I didn't realize you had no belts. Only makes since with a race belt set up. I guess we can call it living on the edge. :D

Mark, the seat belt issue reminded me of your post when I asked you about your decision to run ABS in your new '69.
I have had a lot of experience tuning ABS systems and having them fail at speed. Things happen very fast when you have lost your brake system on the track. I have had a number of "off track" experiences developing ABS and stability systems.
