hey all. i've been looking for a racing style fuel door or cap for quite some time but haven't been able to find quite what i'm looking for. hoping some of you might be able to help out.

what i'm looking for is something like the flip top style on the old cobra's however something that sits as flush as possible. i'd like to get it flush with the body if i can. ideally something close to what the new viper's have would be great. i went and priced one out at the dealer and it's just stupid expensive. i've tried car-part.com and a few other avenues for picking one up at a wrecker but no such luck. although very nice not looking for the air ride style or sparco even. i need that rounded top with the latch.......any ideas?

Just a long shot since I'm absolutely not sure if what you want is available but did you check out what's all available for Harley's?

essentially that is the style i'm trying to get but there is a problem with it. this style is a cap system in itself and the problem with that in the vancouver area is we have to go through "aircare". the local smog testing program. i've already asked them about that style and they've said it would be an automatic fail.

the new challenger i've already looked at as well. i was thinking there was a latch on it but they've only got a little tab to pull it open. not quite the look i'm after.

i've also started looking at various motorbike sites for possible ideas but no luck as of yet. hopefully i'll run across something i can use soon. maybe look at some french and british sites....

the ideal thing about the new viper door is that it gives the exact look i want and is flush with the body. also it's just a door with the actual fuel cap underneath which would be great for the local aircare test. however i refuse to pay close to $2000 for a fuel door.

i posted on the old fesler forum before it was taken away and got a response that something similar may be coming out but haven't seen or heard anything more about it since. it's probably not a high priority part and understandable. i've also tried pm'ing pick a part but didn't hear back so assuming they don't have anything.

options are starting to look slim......may just go with that ridetech cap if all else fails. however not giving up quite yet.......

thanks for the responses so far guys.

Can you modify the one from ebid and take out the internals and just use it as a functioning cover for a standard cap that will get you past the smog police? Just mount it over a standard modern cap. Then you have the looks you want and are still legal. Or get in touch with Gus at Cleveland Pick A Part and see if he has a totalled Viper he will sell you the cap off. I know he has a few Vipers there. He usually lists engines in the "for sale" section.

Just my .02. Good luck.

hey eric. yeah, i've been looking at a few options to modify one of those cobra style ones......just trying to figure out how to maybe get a trim ring around it so i don't have to have a gap in the body in order for it to be functional. also trying to make it as flush as possible.

i've tried pm'ing gus at cleveland before but didn't get a response so thinking he didn't have any in stock. maybe i should try again. let's see how that goes. never know right....x fingers.

I'm not sure how any of these caps mount to the body. But if you get one you can "gut" and use as a shell or cover maybe you will need to have an adaptor ring made. Mount the ring to the body then mount the cap to the ring? This adaptor ring would also serve as the trim ring.
Just a thought.:D

That car was built by Killer Customs. Look up "killer 69" (Blake from Speedtech) and ask if he knows how to get one.
