I own the CarCraft magazine Project 78 Malibu and a 1983 Malibu Woodie Wagon, as of lately the Malibu has just been sitting since I've gotten it with limited driving. I've lost interest in finishing it and would like to make the wagon a nice driver/cruiser to load the family in and take to carshows. I've been contemplating stripping the Malibu of all parts CarCraft has put on it and use them to make the wagon a nice reliable car to enjoy. I don't have the budget to buy new parts for the wagon and leave the Malibu to sit until I'm interested again so I thought swapping the parts over would be the best bet and save the Malibu shell for the future. Whats your opinions?
Heres some info on the Malibu. Project78
The wagon is bone stock. The pic has been chopped.

I say sell the Malibu and keep the wagon Malibu. That way you can have a cruiser and take your family along to shows as well.
GOOD LUCK!

I've thought about selling it but I don't think I would get enough to do the wagon.

What kind of parts can you pull off the Malibu?
Those wagons can look pretty cool...I personally would have to ditch the 'Woodie' look though...but that's just me! ;)

Malibu has full Hotchkis suspension, Edelbrock shocks, GN 10 bolt w/3.42s, LT1 w/4L60E, Autometer Gauges, a cowl hood, etc etc. All that could be swapped over to the wagon. Sorry Tony but I looked for the Woodie Wagon to seperate myself from all the other wagons I see driving around.

It's all good!
I say go for it if you think it will get you and the family out on the road in a completed car sooner...that's what it's all about my friend!!

I say just give me the Malibu since you can't decedie what to do with it and you can cruise your stock wagon. Sounds like a good deal to me.
I vote to keep the wagon, transfer everything over from the Malibu and go have fun with your family. You only get so many chances to do it before the kids are grown and gone. Go do it now and enjoy the time in a cool car together.

as a malibu fan and owner of two .i beg you to not destroy this part of history .this car is a important part of g-body history.i don't know why everyone on here is so quick to tell you to strip it and toss whats left to the scrap pile.i may be alone but i i say bring that car back to it former self and put the wagon on hold till times are better.i would love to here the story about how you came to own the car......thanks clint

clint, I've been a member over at MalibuRacing.com for a few years now. Just not on it as much since most of the members seem to like the straight line performance alittle more than I care for. As for the Malibu, I wouldn't dare scrap it, it has a good solid rust free body that I would save to build later on. That is if I swap the parts over to the wagon. As for how I obtained it, I was following the build in the mag. I bought a wrecked 96 Impala SS and was going to do the swap on another Malibu I have but had some questions about the swap. I jumped on the CC message board and saw a comment about it being on Ebay. Needless to say I got in contact with Henry D and placed the winning bid. The rest is history as they say.

I'm a hardcore wagon guy and also happen to own a Malibu Wagon, so I'm probably a little prejudiced. I say "do the wagon!!!"
Oh, and post pics as you do.

i think a swap wouldnt be a bad thing but keep the 2dr a roller with the wagon suspension parts then either sell the 2dr,,,,,, but what ever happens dont let the 2dr get destroyed thats a sweet looking 2dr and the fact that its a true 78 enhances it as a whole considering most malibus get turned drag i believe still gotta save some for the street ....lastly from searching craigslist in my area doing g-body searches the 78-83 malibus have low numbers just my .02 GL

I'm not a wagon guy but yours looks sweet:thumbsup: ... Swap everything you can over and part the rest of the Bu out....I would buy that shell in a heart beat IF I had the means....hard to find solid shells here in Canada...
