Chicago out on the first round of voting for the 2016 Olympics - and the least number of votes to boot. No matter what your political opinion - it's another missed opportunity for our country to make some global cash and generate some jobs for our folks.

Sorry, but you have to be from Chicago to understand the real impact this would have had.
It would have put the city into massive financial debt.

Look at Beijing's expenditures VS profits. http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/bizchina/2009-06/19/content_8302950.htm
China made an operating profit of over 1 billion yuan ($146 million) from the 2008 Summer Olympics, the National Audit Office said on Friday.

The Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) reported income of 20.5 billion yuan and expenses of 19.34 billion yuan for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, according to an NAO tracking audit of Games' finances and construction costs of venues.

Now just remember, Chicago is in a state where the 4th Governor in 35 years
is probably going to prison for corruption charges. Chicago is a city run by
thugs and gangster politicians. Regardless of who believes this, the most
important detail is that Chicago has Unions galore.....Beijing does not.

If Beijing BARELY cleared $146 million in profits......
Chicago with their "prevailing wage" clause for Unions would have been so
far in debt up to the Union's that they wouldn't have profited a dime. In fact
they would have lost millions instead thereby putting the brunt of all that
payout on the taxpayers to pay back to the corrupt politicians getting all
the massive kickbacks.

What are prevailing wages ??? To give you an idea,
my brother is a Union worker, basic GED education - and he makes ~$26
an hour. When he works within the Chicago city limits he get's prevailing wage
which is closer to $40 an hour. He's a drilling assistant.

I've lived here damn near my whole life and I love it because I'm from here...
But I can't stand the Mayor or the way "the Machine" works here.
The idiot has banned all handguns in a city bordering Indiana that has a much more open
state policy regarding Guns.....and this has proven to make everyone a victim when
Chicago is the US Murder Capital 2x now in the past 5 years.
