Well it been a great year for us here at RPM at the Goodguys shows. With a lot of hard work back here at the shop we have won Hot Rod of the year at Indy, Street Machine of the year top 5 pick at Columbus and a Mighty Muscle pick at Pocono with the 69 Trans Am and many other great awards. It came to us as a great surprise when we were asked to build the 2010 Goodguys give away car the "Boss Snake" 1970 mustang. Its going to be an exciting build and we will be sure to post pictures and information as we go..

Here is a link to the Goodguys site.

Sorry that its been a while since we updated this thread!! Parts are rolling in and the car is starting to come together.. As you can see in the pics there was a lot of work needed to fit such a big engine is such a small hole.. Once it was in place we designed engine mounts that would allow room for headers. The engine mounts in the pics will be remade out of aluminum.. In the rear we had to massage and widen the rear quarter panels/wheel openings .75 to allow room for the tires. You can see in the pics where we split the outer rear wheel house to allow room for the quarter to move. Stay posted for more updates!! March is right around the corner.

Thanks for the update I inquired about, this IMO may be the nicest Giveaway car yet, Hey its a Ford, but Im partial to that year. Plus you don't see many of this year in PT style.

You are definately right.... "IT'S A FORD." But hey, we all like the "F" word.....FREE!!!! LOL!! Free as in 2010 Give Away Car so I guess I can make this one little exception.:willy: :willy:

Updates!!! WIth the deadline quickly approaching we finally received another shipment of parts... The front end is completely fiberglass and needed a lot of love to make it all fit.. We put our crew on the car hard Friday and Saturday to try and get some major work accomplished... Here are some fresh pics... Stay tuned for more !!! First pic you can see how much extra room there is in the engine compartment!! Third pic is the Ring Brothers export brace kit. Since we built the shock towers and raised them from the factory position we have to machine the pieces down that mount to them so they clear the hood. Fourth pic is the Vintage Air assy mounted so we can begin to fab the dash. Pics five and six are inside the truck.. On the right is the battery tray we fabbed that will hold two Optima yellow tops and on the left is the air compressors, valves and fuse panel/wiring harness. Pic seven is the power steering res mounted to the inner fender. Pic eight, fitting the front fenders. Pic nine, preping the firewall for pedal assy. pic ten is a panel we fabbed the mounts in the front of the rear quarter panel and will house the Kicker component speakers.

c10addict
02-01-2010, 09:17 AM
first pic you can see the panel for the speakers in place.. Second Pic we had to cut the taillight panel out of the body to fit the new Shelby panel in from Tony Branda Mustangs. Pics three and four are the body side vents that we had to cut in to the shell. This body was a 69 and the Boss Snake is modeled after a 70 so we filled the upper vents and made the lowers.

That is all a part of "living the dream" of being a hot rod builder! Not exactly the rock star lifestyle that we signed up for!

The car is looking good. You have 42 days before you need to leave for Scottsdale. If you work 24 hours a day that gives you 1,008 hours. Should be just enough time to get the car completed in! Have fun.

 We've been making the guys in the shop ride around inside the trailer when we go places... Its almost like NASA conditioning / testing :goofy: ... We might need the 30 hours during the drive to button up some loose ends.. !!

We have been hammering away on the Boss Snake.. Here are a few updated pics for you all.. The first is a filler panel we made to go between the lower area of the rad support and the lower valance.. Not only does it look cleaner but it strengthens the fiberglass valance if you clip a yellow cone or two with it.. The second pis is a panel we made to cover the rear floor area.. Under the panel is where the air tanks are mounted for the suspension, Third pic is a panel we made on the inside of the engine bay that flows off of the bottom of the radiator, again just to give the engine compartment a cleaner look. Pics four through seven and pic eight is the work we did to the rear bumper.. The gap between the bumper ends and the taillight panels was a bit to much for our liking.. We cut apart the bumper and added to the ends for a tighter fit. We also sucked the bumper in tighter to the body. Lastly is the dash we are making for the car. In this pic it is in the early stages.. It is undergoing changes as we speak...

Not only funny but true! I worked in a trailer a few years back on a SouthWest Tour car between SoCal and the race in Phoenix. I have an issue with motion sickness as is and you never realize how much motion those trailers are constantly in 'til you are puking in a bucket between header bolt installs :faint: That rolling motion is worse that sitting in a fishing boat.

We have been pushing VERY hard on the "Boss Snake" Here are a few pics for you. First one is a cover we made over the rad and rad support. Second is the dash we fabricated, third is the headers we had to fab to fit on the very large motor in the very small hole  , lastly are the rear interior panels that will get powder coated then wrapped... We will start on the body work today and hope to have it painted with in a week!! Coming down to the wire!! Stay tuned!!

Thanks for all your compliments guys.. We are prety much done with all the fab work and the body work starts at sunrise tomorrow... Hope to have the car painted before we leave for Autorama next Wednesday morning. Here are some more pics.... We cut the center of the fiberglass good out and built a scoop to resemble the one in the rendering. We also carried the scoop back on to the wiper cowl to give it a finished look.... We also made a panel to hold the defroster vents in the top of the dash and cut holes for the Kicker tweeters... We fabbed a fuel filler neck out of stainless.... Lastly we made an exhaust tip that exits under the center of the bumper out of the roll pan like in the rendering as well...

Once the carpet and headliner are in, all of that extra time you spent laying out the dynamat so there is no overlap and all the logos line up should really pay off! Don't worry, we do the same sh*t on every car we build too.

The car is looking great. This thing is way over the top for a give away car. 13 days with 4 guys working 24 hours ends up being like 1,200 hours. Should be more than enough time to finish the build!

Well I am proud to say the car was completed and made the trip to Scottsdale!! We honestly worked around the clock the last week to make it happen... One of our guys stayed in the shop working 48 hours straight... Thanks to all that helped make this car come together... 1st pic, fenders on, coming together nicely... 2nd pic, back end about buttoned up, 3rd pic, Hood that we custom made from the hood in eariler pics.. We cut the center out and made our own scoop.. 4th and 5th pic, we had to make new covers for the export braces due to the custom inner shock towers not allowing enough clearance under the hood. 6th, 7th and 8th engine buttoned up and ready to run... 9th the custom hood and cowl panel bolted down for the final time and lastly the front of the car coming together for the final time..

more pics of the interior coming together... 2nd and 3rd pics are a aluminum bezel we made to hold the radio in place. 4th pic, covering the center console, 7th pic, we used the stock door panels but wrapped them in leather. last three the interior mostly all together..

Just an update... We have the Boss Snake back at the shop to take care of a few minor bugs that needed worked out... We worked around the clock to finish the car before its debut and the test drive consisted of .5 miles round trip... There was no time for anything else to happen, it had to go in the trailer and head to Scottsdale... We have the trans pulled to make a few adjustments and the front wheels were sent back to Intro to be rehooped because the offset was incorrect originally.. We are also going to install sway bars so we are ready to attack the Goodguys autocross!!
