Thanks!
The center console is a standard 2nd gen unit which we provide as part of either the dash and door kit, or the full interior package.
The one you see in the pictures with the tan interior was modified by us prior to upholstery.

The dashes you see in the pictures do not have the defrost vents.
They were some of the very fist ones we made. We have since modified the plugs for our current production parts to have a provision for the defrost vents in the factory location.

I think overall that the gauges need to be stepped up a bit, tired of seeing the same thing.

Well, I have a 72 Chevelle and when I click on interior to see your new Chevelle door panels nothing comes up. It's been that way for a while now. Very interested in the product so that's why I'm asking.:lateral:

It has always been our intention to get production panels out for the Chevelle guys. We began with the panels you may have seen a while back for the Goodguys giveaway Chevelle...
Link (http://ridetechgarage.com/more/1970-chevelle-goodguys-2008-giveaway-car/) There are still some design changes we want to make to the panels.
A couple of big build projects have occupied a great deal of shop time recently, thus tying up any development time we have for new fiberglass parts. It looks to be that way for another couple of months.

We do everything ourselves, in house, from the design sketches and ideas to sculpting the plugs for new parts, prototyping, mold making and manufacturing the pieces. Being a small company, we have to get thrifty with where we balance fab time versus prototype time. Prototyping a brand new part is incredibly intensive both time and cost-wise. Right now we have more vehicles in the fab shop than we ever have had, which is great, we just need more hours in the day!

We hope to be expanding or interior parts line to the Chevelle crew pretty soon.
Stay tuned!

I am starting to put the interior in Marks 69 camaro. There is some pictures of the install from camaros.net. How did you mount the door panels to the doors since they have no back,,just a outer shell. Also have you made any defrost vents for the dash yet. We are going to the interior shop next month.

Posted this elsewhere, but for the sake of reference:

You can attach the panels in a number of ways.
We have customers who have had great success with a double sided upholstery/trim style tape (foam type) - very sticky!
Many have used a hidden, or 'blind' fastener (I have heard them called 'Christmas tree clips' before) on the backside of the panel, located into a requisite hole on the door shell.
Others have used an oem approach, with a visible screw and washer like a factory setup.
We have plans for a defroster vent, however, not a production ready part yet.

I still dont see how this will work since your door panels have a 1/8" to 3/16" lip on the edge of the door panels. There is no way to use double stick tape on that thin of a lip.

Now if the door panels had a 1/2" lip on the back side then the clips or double sided tape will work.

Mike, we had to make little U shaped brackets to attach the "christmas tree clips" to. This way the bracket sat flush with the inside of the door. Depending on where we located the brackets, they needed to be between 1/2" and 1" tall.

Does this make sense? I'd provide pictures but I think I lost them all due to a corrupted card.

Thanks Matt,

From what you are saying is that you made "L" brackets. Then bolted/screwed them to the fiberglass door panel. Then used clips on the "L" bracket that inserted into holes on the door. That would work but the screw heads would need to be flush with the fiberglass so you dont see the indention from the screw head in the leather material.

Since I removed the metal dash to install the fiberglass dash where did you install the vin tag. I do not want to put it on top and am thinking of putting it on the drivers side lower dash. When you open the door you will see it.

Anyone have any other ideas?

Matt@BOS

Actually, the brackets we made look kinda like this, with the triangle representing the "christmas tree clip"

_l¯l_

This allows you to fiberglass the ends to the back of the door easily, meaning you won't have any exposed screws.

Also, any reason you don't want to mount the vin close to the where it originally was? I know some states like California, for example, are really picky about this, and technically I don't think you're supposed to tamper with, or remove the vin from its original location. This is what we did, and it doesn't look bad:

We have the flush fit glass and it is painted around the edges,,so where you have the vin will be covered. We are fixing to install the glass so I will check it out.

It looks like you did move it closer to the window edge.

Did you put leather on the dash? We are going to use the soft feel paint that looks like leather.

Matt@BOS
03-31-2010, 11:29 AM
Yes, we moved the vin up so that it is right by the window. I think the guys at the shop just used a razor blade to remove the paint on the back of the windshield to make the window for the vin tag.

We also ended up using vinyl instead of leather because the interior guy said it would hold up better. In retrospect, I wish I'd done the top of the dash in suede to match the A pillars and headliner, because I'm really never going to have to worry about it deteriorating from sitting outside everyday. Durability is really not a factor for most of us because of how well maintained our cars are, and I wish I'd held to a couple of my original designs.

I'd like to see what the leather looking paint looks like. How much of the interior are you planning on using it on?

We are only using it on the dash and glove box door. We might paint the cluster also. We dont like the way it shows oil from your hands.

The rest of the interior will be leather except for the carpet.

I have seen the soft feel paint on a 56 and 57 in Houston. It has the same texture as leather and feels soft. It has the be forced heat dried for the texture. There are 2 vendors I know of. One is PPG and the other is Alsa Corp.

Here is the Upholstrey place we will be using. This is the 56 Chevy. The dash is painted and so is all the metal trim on the doors. The rest is leather.

Interesting stuff. It's hard to see from the pictures, but if it looks good in person, and feels soft to the touch, then it seems like a good choice.

Oh, and one more word of advice, when dealing with the glove box door, it is a good idea to have the back mounting plate painted black to match. You will be able to see it's bigger than the door when you mock it up. Also, don't powder coat it. we made that mistake and the heat demagnetized it.

We tried powder coating the dash cluster and glove box door. We didnt like it ,,the guy screwed it up and we ended up stripping it. Now we have to decide what to do with it. I'll check on the magnets.

Here is a pic of my 68 convertible interior and you can see that the panels look great. The only question I have involves the door pulls. My interior shop didn't feel that the panels were attached to the shell well enough to simply insert the Lokar pulls into the armrest. Is there a way to strengthen that or attach the pulls to the inner portion of the door shells? Any insight would be appreciated.

The Lokar pulls actually act as another anchor for the panel. There is a 90 degree metal bracket, provided by Lokar, which the finger pull screws to, and then subsequently to the door itself. Our door panel is designed to accommodate the pull in the desired location and utilize the anchor point.
If you don't feel the anchor is strong enough, I would recommend replacing the bracket provided by Lokar with a thicker piece with the same dimensions.

Thanks for the update, and I thought that was the case. Obviously, I am managing the build from afar and not being able to address things like this has been somewhat of a challenge. This is one of my final to-do items to be ready for the GoodGuys Nashville shows in 4 weeks so thanks again for the reply. Keep up the good work on modern products like these because I hope to tackle another build in the near future.
