So I'm getting very close to painting the firewall on my 68 Acadian (Nova) and have always been a fan of red. I want to get the firewall painted so I can get all the suspension back on. The last time I had the car painted, I had it done in a GM cherry red. Not sure of the paint code. I loved the color in the sun, but at night time it got too maroon for my liking. The September 2007 issue of Chevy High Performance has a 67 Chevelle that is done in House of Kolor's Kandy Brandy. I really like the way it looks in that picture, but when I did a search for it and found a couple other pics of what was supposed to be that color, I didn't like it as much. I like the deeper reds, but as stated above, don't want maroon. I also want a color that if the car ever gets into an accident, I can have it repaired without having the entire car repainted. I want a base/clear paint.
Can you guys post some pics of your red cars and if you know what the color is that would be great. Since I'm using BASF primer, should I stick with a BASF paint as well or can I use something else, like House of Kolor? Thanks in advance.

Honda/Acura's Milano Red is nice and I really like Mercedes Mars Red. Oh and the Ferrari Red that Frank used on the 69 Camaro was killer as well! And yes Boyd Red is nice as well. There now you have all my narrowed down choices from the days that I was going to go Red. :)

If you are going to use PPG paint I like to use straight toner DMD1677, and it is easy to match again. You will also save some money buying toner rather then a mix, and remember red is expensive.

I second that. When done right, Boyd red looks an inch deep.

I waffled back and forth on reds for what seemed like an eternity. I wanted kind of a blood red...you know that color that you see as soon as you slice your finger.
A lot of the reds out there are a little "muddy". I wanted one that wasn't too exotic (i.e. expensive and hard to get) and that would be easy to match later on. I chose GM Cobalt Red..this is the same color as the 2005 Corvettes.

I used 2004 Lexus red.
I was told that the red is the most expensive of the solid colors, not sure how true that is.
I found the red I liked by going to the NEW car dealers and looking at all the different reds out there.

House of Kolor Blue Blood. It falls on the side of the blue-red instead of the yellow-red like the Viper's red.

Thanks everyone for posting so many colors. It's been a lot to think about. So after all that I finally decided on a color. I actually got it today. After thinking about it, I realized that I really like the deep reds in the sun. I know some of them do go maroon in the dark, but I don't plan on driving it if I know it's going to rain. Sure I'll have it out in the dark, but when the sun hits it, it will look good. So after all that, the color I picked is House of Kolor's apple red. It's basically a base/clear version of candy apple red. Apparently it will be easy to touch up and I won't have to paint the entire car like I would if I had a true candy apple red. I'll be laying it on top of HOK's black base coat. One thing I did find out though.....not cheap. It cost me $425 for one quart of black, one quart of apple red, one coat of clear, reducer and catalyst. Oh well. I want this car done right this time. And besides...I have always loved candy apple red cars so I figured it was time to do it. I'll post some pics hopefully on Monday as I plan on painting the firewall then. Thanks again for all the replies.
