View Full Version : Upgrading from 4 piston willwood brakes to 6piston, is it worth it?

I am going to ship my car to Germany and I am concerned with slowing down from 160mph to 80mph, maybe even more, on the Autobahn. I have heard that it is a concern with cars out there, the traffic jams in Germany come out of no where and I noticed I was slowing down from 260k to about 100k or slower at times. Would jumping to the 6 piston brake, same rotor, be that much more advantageous or is it not worth the money.

Have you bothered to check your braking distance with an actual 100mph stop?

probably the first place to look. ;)

Its my understanding that more pistons give you more stopping power over longer periods of time, like in racing circumstances. Those 4 pistons should stop your car on a dime and give you change.

I know I've locked up my OEM style brakes at 80mph no problem with an OEM booster.

Well I have not been able to, yet. I am currently deployed and I am anxiously waiting to drive my car. I was just curious, I had a great deal on the 4 piston variants with my restoration. I wanted to know if it was worth the upgrade or if it would just end up being an aesthetic upgrade. I was driving a 2008 BMW and had no problems obviously, but was curious with an older car that does not have ABS, traction control or a booster, if it would have issues slowing down at those speeds.

Thanks. :)
