Maurie & Lynne Hoover's "Novastar" was stolen while at Hot August Nights in Reno Sunday evening.
Lynne's email -
To those of you who don't know yet, our Nova was stolen this last weekend while at Hot August Nights in Reno. Naturally we are devastated and confused and still shaking our heads.
I did not go with Maurie to Reno and at approx 2am on Sunday morning received a phone call from a police officer in Vacaville asking if we owned a black Mirage car trailer. After getting my whits about me answered "yes, but that it should be in Reno with my husband". I immediately called Maurie he had to throw on some clothes and go look. The trailer was gone.
The Nova had been at an indoor venue there in Reno since Monday. Saturday evening around 6 pm Maurie drove the car out of the building and down to the fairgrounds where our trailer and motorhome were parked. He loaded up the car, strapped it down and locked up the trailer. The car trailer was not hooked up to the motorhome because of the parking situation at the fairgrounds, but it was near by.
He then proceeded back to the building to help some of the 18 other car owners with their displays and such so they could head home that night. Around 9pm he was given a ride back to the fairgrounds and he headed straight for the motorhome so he could eat and go to bed.
Naturally, Maurie was in a state of disbelief when I called him and then the Vacaville police officer called him. Fortunately, we were able to recover the trailer, though stripped of everything inside of it, but most importantly our car.
Vacaville police did put out a national bulletin which I have attached. I know it's probably fruitless, but keep your eyes and ears open. It could be anywhere.
Naturally we have filed a claim with our insurance company and they will be investigating and working with the police hoping to recover the car.
So along with us, please say your prayers.
Lynne and Maurie"Novastar" has a lot of one-off features -2" Chopped top, Cadillac Northstar engine, Colorado Customs rims, Arc Audio Stereo Components, '61 Impala trim, etc....

This happens way to often.
I'm using a sleeping bag and sleeping in the trailer, don't need a hotel room.

I wonder if there was a lock on the tongue of the trailer. If so, what type and how was it removed?
Very sorry to hear about your loss. I hope it is found soon and in good shape. For what it's worth, I'll keep my eyes open up here. Good luck!

Oh my god! I loved this car @ the Sacramento Autorama when I saw it. If they find the guys that took it, just shhot 'em. No trial, no jury, just 2 slugs and a glock.

it really sucks when your property gets stolen but if they had it insured right it will take the sting out a bit...they were trying to get rid of it anyway i remeber someone handing out for sale flyers at the last show

It's been on the market for a while now... It's insured, thank God. Not going to help insurance rates for high caliber show cars though.

Last year my truck was broken into while at HAN - right in front of Macy's department store - during BROAD DAYLIGHT! The entire thing was caught on the security camera... but the cops just said "oh well... it's a property crime"...
Meanwhile - I had to drive home (towing) with a blown apart dash - and a blown up window.
That was the last time I went to HAN -- this year -- I did "Rod Run to Yellowstone"... had a blast - and never worried about what some punk was going to do.
And - oh by the way - none of the stuff in your car that isn't "factory installed" - is covered by your insurance - so my loss was in excess of 3 grand. They (insurance) covered the broken window (minus my deductible) and the damage the glass did to the seat...

This is just friggin sad !!! This is why ALL my stuff has GPS on it. I installed it on my cars and both of my trailers. As soon as these things are moved as little as one inch it sends a signal to my home computer or laptop then calls my home or cell phone. I had two trailer stolen right out of my yard. Four months ago they tried to take my snowmobile trailer, they did'nt make it a mile.I directed the police to the exact location it was traveling right on my laptop.. Its the only way to go!!!

So very sad...what a beautiful car,I'd be devastated.
I love going to carshows & events,I really do...but only when I do so without my cars. This just further justifies why I'll never take them out of town.

Mario -- SMART!! Never thought about putting this type of stuff on my trailer! How do you keep it powered up? My trailer only has a smallish battery for the electric brake (in the event the thing brakes loose from the tow vehicle). Are you using LoJack or something else??

What GPS brand did you go with? I have heard the 'pros' would have a cell jammer which would make it useless? Don't know the stats or facts to back that up just what I heard? I guess like any anti theft device there will be pros and cons....

The worst part is they will destoy the car getting what they want out of it. (probably stereo) In my experience they will get it back but probably wish they hadn't after seeing it.
I FN HATE theives !!!!

Greg it is hooked up to the e brake battery. But it does'nt activate until its moved. My cousin is a computer geek and set this thing up for me . I do no that it is set up with my shop p/c. If the GPS moves a certain distance from the predetermaned range my shop p/c activates something, then it sends it to my home p/c and calls me, how it does this I have no idea.I'm going to get a hold of him to see if he can explain how its done I have no idea. He's a little hard to pin down . He does some for the local used car dealers in town for the hard to finance people. They can find the car if they miss a payment. He started me on this awile back I had some breakins in my driveway so he tells me to go on e-bay and buy a broken Garman .Puts the GPS in the broken case. He then set it up so that when it was move it would prompt my p/c then call me . I then could track where it was going and catch the little F@#ckers. It worked perfect !! Turned out I did'nt have to go far, one block away ,my neighbors son!! Then I had the idea for the trailer!! One last thing you can set this up while your on the road if you have a lap top...

Most insurance companies will cover aftermarket items, but you have to let them know that you have installed them.

I know this is true with State Farm...I have always had my list of current car stereo gear on file with them with my DD. But the catch is if the car is totaled/stolen you only get a check to cover your pre-agreed value...you don't get money and what you may consider your personal items like stereo gear. What is bolted to the car is part of the car.

True, but I have always managed to pull the stuff they don't add when they total the car.

BILL - WE were talking STOLEN not totaled... when they break into your vehicle - you don't have time before hand to clean it out.... NOPE! The scumbags do that for you!!
So what I didn't get paid for was - CD's - iPod - prescription sunglasses - radar detector - Aftermarket Alpine stereo/DVD/GPS unit in dash - small invertor (for charging laptop etc).... and any of the innumerable minor items like flashlights and spare change and charger cords etc.
THAT is all covered on your HOMEOWNERS insurance... well good luck with that one! My house in Bellevue, WA has a pretty dang high value - and therefore also a high deductible...

I know... sorry, I was just rambling...
I knew about the stuff in your car being covered by homeowners, now that I think of it. I had my laptop stolen several years ago and my homeowners covered it less the deductible. I seem to recall that the deductible on that was $200...
Anyway, I can't stand a thief. Hopefully whoever stole your stuff will go to jail for quite a long while. Maybe the Muslims have it right on this one and we should chop of hands...
