Second Gen Seat Cover Install - Step By Step.

I just got my seat covers in today so I recovered my rear seats. The front seats will come later. This is for a second gen F-body.

If you stretch the covers on correctly you should not have any wrinkles. If you have any, set your seats out in the Sun.

Items required:

-Seat install kit which includes hog ring pliers and hog rings.
-Seat covers
-Standard Pliers
-Knife, only needed to open the boxes.

You should have about 12-14 hog rings in the seat bottoms each at minimum!
The upper back seat should have about 27.



First start with the bottom rear seats. Take your pliers, grab the hog rings holding the old cover on and twist the hog rings out, shouldn't be too hard. Don't pull the rings that hold the seat bun to the frame, leave it all attached. You only need to take the cover off.

After you have gotten all the rings out and taken the old cover off, make sure there aren't any sharp edges on your old frame. Lay your new cover out and set the seat bun/frame on top of it.

Now start pulling the cover on, I started with the rear left side and worked my way around.

Now try to work the bun into the cover, make sure you tug with your hand on both sides of a seam otherwise you could rip it. There will be some pushing, pulling etc.

It should start to looking something like this. Make sure you give the whole cover a good tug all the way around so it is firmly in place.

You are at the point now to start putting in your hog rigs. I started with the bottom piece, I used two rings.

Now put two in the middle, make sure you are firmly tugging from now on when putting the rings in.

Two in front.

Two more at the bottom, one is to the right of the lower "6" that molded into the bun, you can see where the fabric is being tugged at the rusty bar. Your second goes in the same place on the other side.


Now fold the bottom flap over and put in two more.

You are finished with the bottom's!!! You are probably going to need a few more to tie up the loose ends but these were enough for me.

Now for the upper back seat. Take all the old rings and pull the cover off like before. Lay the new cover out and set the old bun/frame on top.

Start working the cover on.

Make sure everything is nice and tight and apply your first right in the middle of the transmission tunnel.

And two more, one on each corner. Each side should look like this with three rings at each end.

Now flip it over and put two as close as you can to the center. This is the top side now.

One in the middle, put another in the same place at the other end.

Now put two in the corner, try to fold the edge over and clamp one all at once.

Work your way down the side and clamp the bottom corners.

Put two more in the transmission tunnel and a few more wherever you think you may need them.

Not bad,You can put some 1/2 foam under your center section of your back seat top,That will fill up the loose fit.Same with the outside sections of your front seats,Just a little advice...Nice to see you try it yourself

Thanks, they came out amazing compared to looking at a few other home installs lol. It's a little late to stuff some foam in there, I tried it on the upper rear but you could tell something was under there so I pulled it out.

I have heard that if I leave them out in the sun a little bit they will tighten up. The front bottom bun isn't on the frame yet which is why it's very loose looking. I am taking the frame with me tomorrow to work and welding it up, the rust got to it a little bit.
