always fun to hit the track and BW is a good track.
word of advice, if you start off the track like those photos show, straighten the steering wheel/car out and drive OFF the track, do NOT try to stay in it like those photos show you doing. You got lucky but sooner or later you will hook an edge and either shoot back across the track and take someone out, or roll the car. Willow Springs for instance is notorious for rolling cars because people try to save it, and BW run off is not much better.
Also I would consider some sort of skid plate for your oil pan and maybe try to tuck the headers up a bit better... as you just showed the occasional off track excursion does happen and you could very well rip that pan right off so I would make a skid plate out of thick aluminum, or 1/4" steel. If you can't protect the exhaust then you might rip it off, but that doesn't blow the engine ;) so not as detrimental. You can always drive home on open headers :unibrow:

Actually earlier in the day I came into that corner so hot I did just that, I went straight off rather than bother dealing with correcting and possibly spinning in 2 cars behind me. In this case it was correctable, but I'm not afraid to get all 4 off, especially in the case of traffic or getting in someones way.
This maneuver was done slow, less than 15mph... I nearly locked up the tires trying to slow. It just looks fast in the photos ;)

My favorite Track for sure. It was my first time there and I'm hooked. Makes Big Willow and Streets boring. I'm now a die-hard BW fan.

lol. Thats a bit difficult with no power steering, but I still manage to throw the ass end out here and there ;)
From Streets of Willow. Love the loose gas cap as well

Great pics, I upgraded to power steering over the winter and was not sure how I would like it. Turns out it was a good upgrade, although I did have fun man-handling it last year on the big tracks.
Great pics.  Have any video?

Theres a certain manly quality about it, but it wears off after about 2 sessions
At streets of willow I reached my physical limits pretty early in the day. Its a tight course for a car with no power steering, especially with oil on the track...

I got some instruction from my porsche turbo friend and it helped me improve throughout the day. He offered me instruction at any event we attend together. Its fun being yelled at for your mistakes on the track. I enjoy learning

Thanks man its good fun. Get on out there. I usually post on both pro-touring.com and here when I go out and try to get people out there. It seems like people tend to have this assumption that if your car doesn't have a full 100k build you shouldn't be on the racetrack. My attitude is, if the trans am cars did it, why can't we.
It doesn't matter how far along or robust your build is. Just get out there and have some fun with your car. Thats the point right? ;)
I'd really like to get some LSX based cars out to an event so I can ride along and see the difference in weight over the front end. It very well could be the thing that will convert me to an LSX believer.
Or at least a donavan aluminum BBC with fuel injection just to be different :willy:

kosher... you're right, looks faster than it was. I have seen more than a few "saves" become wrecks, especially at BW coming out of the esses into the front stretch, that last turn is hell on cars. People go off, try to save, shoot across the track and straight into the wall on the other side and it is the most common wreck at that track IIRC. I have seen, personally, 3 cars in the wall and have heard of many more.
Look at pic 3 in your sequence, another good reason to just go straight off... when you strattle the edge of the pavement like that, the run off is lower and so forth and you oil pan looks really close - one good rut in the dirt at the left wheel and you could smack that pan. I pulled sideways back onto WSIR one time (similar angle to what you are driving back on at) and drug the bottom of my car once (fully flat bottom) so just be careful, would hate to read the "blew my motor going off" thread ;)

Looks like a blast! I definitely need to try that sometime soon.
Great car. I have been seriously considering that color for my build...but that's a while down the road. Paint might be obsolete by the time I get there. :)

Good to see someone else with some track knowledge around here. Love your 914 its a monster:thumbsup:
I've only got 6 track days under my belt with the Camaro so I'm still learning. I'll take that into consideration. Earlier in the day I did the right thing.. I noticed that same thing about my oil pan and said it to my friend when looking at the photos. I was going to slow by that point, I think I went off track to get out of the way of other drivers more than anything. I was definitely coming in WAY too hot though.
Better safe than sorry.
If you ever get out in your 914 toss me a PM I'd love to see it run. What groups do you run with? VARA? I Imagine the PCA guys are disgusted with you

When do you get penny back? If you want I'll send you a PM next time we go out. I'd like to meet you, and the Pozzi's out at an event and meet everyone, including Penny. Just don't leave me alone with her
I typically go with a bunch of modern cars. My brother in law has a 997 and my friend has a 997 turbo. The guy with the turbo has a lot of track experience and is giving me some 'instruction'. It would be great to have some other classic muscle out there.
We are looking at a September event possibly.

thanks... I don't run with any specific groups anymore and just do open track days. I suspect my days of W2W stuff is over, just too risky and I got over fixing fenders awhile ago  I have considered running with SCCA but haven't gone that far yet due to aforementioned desire to keep my fenders in one piece.
I am in CO now as of a couple years ago, but WSIR was my favorite track and I miss it - running 160mph in the front stretch and flying thru T8 are fun times and no tracks around here afford me that kind of speed. I just put a new trans in last winter and geared way down as the max I see is maybe 145mph out here.

The "back in town" date is up in the air right now.. sometime between the first of September and the first of October.
Would be a fun day to get everyone in the area out there. The Pozzi's can give us all a little schoolin.. :)

That would be amazing. No photographing or working for you though. Just bring Penny and beat on her. All fun, no work allowed!
