July 2009 May go down a great month in the History of Ironworks Speed & Kustom.
1st off we landed the Goodguys Truck of the Year Finaist award at Columbus.
So at the very least I have one of the top 6 trucks in the US according to Goodguys. Man when I bought that truck 14 years ago, I would have never ever guessed that would be the case. to think 10 years ago, I bought a MIG welder and was installing a front clip on the original chassis. Almost 5 years ago I was trying to sell the truck for 600 bucks just to get it out of my yard in front of my old shop downtown.
Mequiars called late last week and infomed me that The C6-57 Truck had been selected to be up on the shiny black display table with ropes and fancy lights in their booth in Hot Rod Alley at SEMA this year. I was approached Mike Pennington of Meguiars at Del MAr earlier this year and he told me he would like to have the Truck in their booth, but I had to make it through a Selection committee vote the end of July. We I got the phone call last week and I'm pretty excited.
We shot the a feature and cover for Classis Trucks last Wednesday night with Rick Amado. After we did some driving shots and were working on the Feature pics, In a form fitting of the Farm Truck nickname, about 40 Black cows came up behind the truck and tried to get their 15 minutes of fame.
Then the following night Bob Ryder came up to Bakersfield to shoot a feature and cover shoots for Truckin Magazine. We did the driving shoots upthe freeway in this undeveloped industiral zone. We then were working on getting a final picture with this refinery in the back ground at sunset. The picture took alot of staging, but I sure hope it turns out like we planned.
Then To top it off Jimi from Optima Batteries called and asked if we would be able to get the Chassisworks Camaro done in time to Run the Silver State Classic in Sept. If was interested they wanted to Pay for our entry Fee. On one hand that is great because the Silver State Classic looks like total fun, but we are just finishing the quarter panel install as we speak. and we have 7 weeks to get the car running and safe enough to go a maximum of 105mph for 90 miles. Yeah No pressure.....:_paranoid
