This has got to be, in my opinion, one of the neatest, and most unique cars I have ever seen. I am a huge WW2 plane fanatic, so I am in love, and for this to be street legal in mind-boogling...How would you like to pull into the local cruise night in this thing? My hat is tipped to the builder...awesome creativity, and unbelievable worksmanship. I predict north of 250K for this one. Damn MegaMillions Jackpot, when will you come through....

I have not bumped into Leno at shows. He does sometimes come to the Mopar Spring Fling in Socal. I did get to meet him and tour his shop a couple years ago. He is not bidding as far as I know. I just think he would be a good owner for the car

Somebody had a stupid amount of money to blow to build that. Absolutely incredible workmanship. That Rolls Royce is somewhere around 1500ci, and $50K to just overhaul one. I bet he spent $500K building it.

Well if anyone has ever heard a P-51 overhead at an airshow, that will give you some idea of the sound. One of the sweetest sounding WWII engines made. Congrats Charley. I don't think W2W is qualified to tune this one.

Hey Charley, if I chip in for say 20 gallons of 100 low lead avgas (enough for 5 minutes of runtime probably, LOL) can I come up and get a ride?
If the Power Tour had an award for "most gas consumed" over the trip, I think I know who would win. :P
I've seen this thing 3 times at various airshows over the last couple years and the attention to detail, planning, design, and overall craftsmanship is nothing short of outstanding. However, he always had a sign out front that said "No, I will not start it just so you can hear it" at the display. :P

I believe it has to run on 115/130 avgas if I am not mistaken. He might be able to idle on 100LL.

Good point, but being that you'll never be able to highly load the engine in the car (or probably even use high gear on the supercharger) my hunch is that 100LL will probably do just fine; heck, it's only 6.0:1 compression.
The Merlins were originally intended to use 87 octane in the pre-WW2 days, then changed to take advantage of 100 octane in the XX variant early on in the war; and I believe the 1650-7 (the Packard variant) was also originally intended to run 100 octane, but substantial power gains came from running even higher octane avgas and running more boost.
This is all splitting hairs though... and I still want to make the short drive up to Charley's place for a ride (and do more burnouts in his driveway-- LOL) :unibrow:

OH BTW, emergency boost numbers on the supercharger is like 75 psi!!! Full power boost is around 50 psi if I remember right. It has been too long since I looked it up the last time. Try that with you BB Chevy.
