OK, so Chevy is now going to keep the G8 around but rebadge it the Caprice. IMHO, the G8 is one of the better cars GM has been affiliated with in a while. It is a great value really. I was never thrilled with the "G8" badge but I sucked it up and went for it anyway. I can tell you though that I NEVER would've crossed that bridge for a "Caprice".

What is GM thinking? Does the marketing team do any sort of studies? Come up with a new name or something. Caprice, the name, should be dead. It stopped selling for a reason and the name and stigma associated with it being grandma's car has not just magically went away.

If I had the power, I'd rebadge it a Chevelle. The GXP would become the new Chevelle SS. First the new Camaro and then bring back the Chevelle. Marketing could wear out the "going back to when we did things right" plays. The baby boomers that lived during that era, and also have the purchasing power, I think would be the target market for this car. The younger gen would pick it up too if looking for a 4 door.

Then come out with that 2 door coupe that Holden had discussed. Then the Chevelle could also come in 2 door like it should.

Unless they are going to honestly do justice to the old nameplate, they need to just come up with a new name. The new caprice doesn't look bad, but I wouldn't revive the chevelle name without putting out a killer design. The charger was lame and didn't deserve to be a charger (in terms of aesthetics at least), but the challenger nailed it and is worthy of the name IMO.

There were 4 door chevelle/malibus, but I wouldnt bring it back as a 4 door personally... that's not what people remember when they think "Chevelle". They remember the LS6 SS.

I'm with you on the "why use the caprice name" question. I thought the same thing... I don't associate caprice with excitement.

They have them now in the middle-east badged as Chevy Lumina.
Don't know why they don't just keep the Commodore name they've always had here in Australia.....?
My wife has one, pretty good car, and I'm a Ford guy.

The nostalgic name would've been cool....however, it is what it is. Looking past whatever name they gave it, it is a car done right. I'm just glad they didn't put it to rest along with the rest of Pontiac. Also looking forward to the "Hurst" edition. Should be interesting.

If they're using the Caprice name, I wonder if they'll use the "GXP" version as an "Impala SS" as they did in the mid 90's.
