Any know of any reasonably priced alternative to a Burr King belt grinder? $1800.00 for one tool is just not in the budget right now:

Got spoiled using a Burr King at school just so many things you can do with it. (Especially great for custom brackets).

absolutely not in the same league, but a bench top disc/belt combo sander can be had fairly cheap at Sears, Lowes or Home Depot. I've had one for years and it gets the jib done as long as you don't get crazy with what you want to do.

Buy the Burr king, worth the money. I have 2. Expensive but worth the money. I bought a Jet belt sander to save money an have replaced it 2-3 times and my burr king is still kicking ass every day

I just have a home shop -- but have "INVESTED" in two Burr King grinders - the belt version you show in your photo --- and their smaller disc grinder (12 inch) --- I use them EVERY DAY -- and would rather do without something else in the shop rather than get rid of these two killer machines!

My other favorite tool... my Cold Cut Saw... walk over - flip the switch -- cut something - and never have to clean up the mess my other saws make!!

Okay -- so head for TRICK TOOLS === on line --- they have various belt machines (Jet etc) and one that you can add to your grinder... SO you might get by with a smaller tool like that... They also handle the Burr Kings -- but check this supplier out. It's a good spot to drool. LOL

Here --- Try looking at these. I bought one as a gift for a buddy after he helped me build my shop -- and he's happy with it -- he'd prefer to use my Burr King... but these work for one 10th the money...

I saw the thread title and almost said McDonalds...

What is so much better about the Burr King, as compared to a belt sander? Is it just more robust?

You will know the moment you turn it on. It is like comparing a ferrarri to a pinto.

Good one Rodger! And so DANG true!! Once you've worked a piece on a Burr King machine -- there's just no turning back. LOL

Thanks for all the replies guys.

So far Greg's suggestion on the Multi-tool with like a Jet grinder seems to be the best alternative I have seen.
