I know I told a few people here about it but i'm ordering one of these bad boys and wanted you guys to check out the motor trend article on it. It's going to be my daily driver (I hate the wing-first thing to go)

Pretty stout for the price, no?
I'm not up on that car, is the supercharger an option when you order it, or is it standard on the SS?

Have you taken a test drive yet? Let me know what you think of it. $24K? How much is an 05 Mustang GT with 300HP? My guess is that the insurance companies has jacked-up rates on both cars (because the Cobalt SS is technically rice and the Mustang, well, has been jacked-up for decades.

The SS option comes standard with the Eaton M62 blower. I like the fact that it's a smaller, kidof unusual car and the SS is very distiguishable copared to the other Cobalts. The Mustangs are okay but they really cheesed out on the dash and console area of the interior. No only that, but everyone and their daddy's momma is going to own one and at around 29K loaded on the GT, I'd just rather have a Coablt.
I've taken the base model for a spin but it's entirely different than the SS which has so many parts that are specific just to that car. The interior is very nicely appointed for what it is and the electric steering is a dream. I love the way the steering feels on the freeway and on the street....it gets tight and super responsive on the freeway and loosens up when your going slower. The car is also quiet, quiet, quiet inside.....even on the freeway.

Keith, it sounds like a nice little driver that's easy on the pocket book in more ways than one!!
Give us some feedback when it comes in.

Definitely...it's a nice balanced car from Chevy and believe it or not, despite this Cobalt and my Chevelle I am a Camaro guy at heart. I've had a first gen., two second gens, a third gen and my live in g/f has a 4th gen (all v8 cars). I've also had a 73 Nova and a 67 Malibu all of which I paid for on my own so i guess at 24 I'm not doing too bad. :)
I will definitely get pics and reviews up here as soon as it comes in but estimates don't put my SS at the dealer until the beginning of April. At least it'll be exactly how I want it. I'm still fighting to see if I can have it ordered with the sport wing instead of that..."thing" on the back.

Keith, Thought you may find this interesting....the car is just plain cool imo, and I believe the high rear wing can be replaced with a lower one if you so desire....GREAT daily driver....With chassis tuning done by none other than Stielow....I'll take a black one please....
From Motor Trend:
"how good is it! In testing, the Cobalt SS is the fastest regular-production front drive car through the slalom we've tested in three years, rocking through the cones even faster the the C6 Z51. The SS outcornered the VW R32 on the skidpad, outgunned the Mini cooper S 0-60mph, and outstopped the WRX 60-0."

I have this article from Motor Trend, car and driver as well as MPH magazine. The car is getting really good reviews. My dealer said I can't actually order one yet as they don't have the final options list yet and I was like wtf???!! Stop airing the commercials then about the new "commotion" :)
P.S. the girlfriend just ordered a spanky new mustang GT for herself.....

Just go here and you can "build" one that you want, and they do list the options, I didn't see a lower spoiler on the sheet, so that may not be the case (I personally don't mind the larger one) and quite honestly, there are very few options at all, as it seems to come very well equipped.
Check it:

Good Luck... :)

the issue is all cars tested had what the reviewers referred to as a performance pakage that included a limited-slip diff and recaro seats. I don't care about the seats but the LSD is important to me. No dealer, no even chevy themselves can give me a straight answer on this let alone order it with the options I want. I've done alot of research and it's just been a PITA so far. I want the car, though, so as soon as I can order the SS with what I want, I'm there!

Keith,
I emailed Mark, and his reply was that the LSD is an option on the "SS" package...The website appears to be less than informative.

Here is another article on it. http://www.thecarconnection.com/index.asp?article=7867&sid=184&n=157
In fact it’s among the very best handling small cars out there with a firm ride and only moderate understeer at the car’s limits. And with the limited slip diff aboard, it pulls through corners with confidence and impeccable manners getting more from those Pirellis than a front-driver has any right getting. Much of the credit should go to GM suspension engineer Mark Stielow, who led much of the ride and handling development. For anyone who subscribes to Hot Rod, Car Craft or Popular Hot Rodding, the answer is, yes, that’s the same Mark Stielow who’s home-built, heavily modified, classic Camaros and Chevelles are renowned as among the best hot rods ever built.
That's pretty cool that they actually give Mark credit right in the article. Hmmm, I don't recall Trush getting any press on the transmission performance of the Impalas.... :P Seriously though, I just talked to Jeff on the phone last night about the Cobalt SS, and one thing I mentioned was that I wish the wheels had a slight dish to them, something along the lines of a BMW wheel. I know that a wide track is important in suspension design and geometry, but from a styling point of view, I just like that look.

That was a cheap shot! Yeah well....It does have the worlds best JD Power IPTV rating  ...I am a nobody, so I have to toot my own horn :P
Nobody?! I seem to remember 7 pages in Car Craft along with the cover. :P
The Cobalt looks pretty cool in this shot:

I see, Stielow's name gets mentioned on the car and everyone thinks it's cool all of a sudden. :D haha j/k
Speak of the devil, i just got word from gm that the "performance pakage" was an early thought but now the LSD does, in fact, come standard on the SS (like Mark said) so we are in biz...I'll let you guys know when it comes in. I still hate the rear wing but that's easy to fix. I think this will be great as a daily driver even though my g/f's new 05 GT will still spank me when it come's in (ordered it a week ago).
Jeff, thank you for emailing Mark....Just how involved was he on this car? and yeah, Gm's website is pretty diluted, not much info there. I'm excited, though, because I know the aftermarket will cater well to this car and the motor is pretty well built to handle a lot more than it already gives. There's already a co. making a turbo kit that'll feed the M62 supercharger making well over 400HP! So it'll be fun...
