View Full Version : Update on my stolen El Camino...

I got a call this afternoon at about 4:15 while I was out with my folks. The Sheriff's dept. calling to let me know my car was recovered. The bad news (according to them) : It's somewhat damaged and partially stripped. They gave me the number of the towing company that has it at their yard. Go figure it's in southern Los Angeles, about 35-40 minutes from me. Well after getting our VIN from our insurance company, we called the yard and they looked the car up and came back, telling us that the car was completely vandalized, stripped of its wheels, motor, transmission, and possibly the interior (they didn't mention the interior) so both my dad and I got really upset. We had a lot invested in that car, even though it wasn't on the same level as the Chevelle. It hurt even more last night when he told me how excited he was when he first bought the car.
We're heading over to LA tomorrow morning to sort things out. Looks to be a total loss though.
Let's have a moment of silence for my poor El Camino... May it be at peace.
I'll post some pictures tomorrow I guess. If I can bring myself to even look at it.

That sucks but at least it was found. Makes you glad it wasn't the Mustang. I hope you had insurance to cover the aftermarket stuff.

Was the body damaged too? I hope it's still worth fixing, We'd all hate to see you give up on it if it can be brought back to life. :(

My strong advise would be to buy the car back from the insurance company if it is at all rebuildable. Somehow, cars that go through this type of crap always have more sentimental value, they just have that much more to tell in their life story.

Good info, and try to get it back with a clean title if at all possible....

Looks like we'll be trying to buy it back. It's just a bad situation as I know that my dad and I aren't in a financial position to have it rebuilt or to do it ourselves, especially due to us both being employed full-time. That's what really sucks about the whole thing.
From my dad's description, it sounded like it was worth trying to save, but I don't know how easy it will be. It would be fun to build it up and even take it to SEMA though. I'll keep you guys posted on our plans for it.
Thanks for all the support and let's hope for the best...
Kris
