View Full Version : Thoughts on new Camaro? Should GM continue the trend?

I haven't had a chance to run down to the dealership yet, pretend like I have a ton of money, and drive one (actually I just want to sit in one), but some of you guys have. One or two of you might already own one, so I want to hear what you guys think about it? Was/is it everything you were expecting and/or hoped for?

Is GM newstalgia formula working? Does the car feel like a true interpretation of the original?

Do you think that, given the new Camaro's reception and anticipation, that GM should continue the trend and look to restyle/reintroduce other vehicles in their line-up?

I'll hold my opinion until I get a chance to really look over the car.

I haven't had the chance to see or sit in one in person, but they are growing on me big time.
My dealership is supposed to be getting 2 SS/RS Camaros in and I'll go down and check'em out and sit in them.
From what I hear from people that bought one, they love'em!!!

I had seen a few at SEMA and liked them. I had wondered what little changes might be made before the actual prod models came out. I checked out my first prod model on Saturday. It was a V6 :( . However, I really like the styling. I was a little undecided about the interior at first but now I like it. Mechanically I think it is very similar to my G8 GT which is great to drive. I hope they sell well. I think they will continue to have the mountain to climb that is public perception of the brand in general. Also, the economy in general is going to make it tough. Hopefully the car sells well, fit/finish holds up, few mechanical problems, and word of mouth spreads and they continue to sell. I don't think advertising alone will overcome that perception the public has. Consumers are only going to trust other consumers at this point.

For the money...I like it. I wouldn't even pay MSRP for one though.

Wait until 2011 where they have the bugs worked out, have more options and give incentives. Because all those willing to pay MSRP or over already bought the 2010 model...

Or pickup a 2010 model when the 2011s come out.

Doesn't light my fire and I've owned Camaro's since 1972. I would never buy one.

I think GM needs to rethink the Pontiac decision and scrap Buick.

I looked one over at my local dealer. ( I actually used to work there)
If I had the chance and funds to buy a V8 / manual trans model below MSRP I would. But the styling just does not "grab me" so I could easily walk away from one. The one I saw was a V6 auto RS 1LT, Black ext, grey int. I did not drive it though so I cant really comment on that. It is a pain to see out of the back though.

Why?

Buick makes money.

I finally saw the new Camaro in person. I haven't been a fan of the concept and CAN say I like it better than I did, but still not enough to want one. Maybe it's one of those cars that takes a few years to grow on you. I don't like the high "belt line" it makes the body look thick. I got in the passengers side, you know how it is, getting in a low sitting car, well add to the fact that as I'm falling in, I have to lean forward so I don't hit my head on the roof edge (I'm 6'-1"). When in the car the dash/bottom edge of the windows seems very high. I did not test drive, so I'm not sure if that perception has any real bearing on visibility, but I can't imagine my 5'-0" tall wife enjoyng driving one.

i think its just another gm. mis in my book. sutch an awsome drivetrain. but interior is butt ugly.the car has potential but is pretty lame duck styling. ther are some renderings out there that look great maybe gm. can learn somthing from them. i went to the auto show just to see the re release of the gto. and you could have kicked me in the nuts and pained me no less. to se sutch a awsome drivetrain and sutch a lame body with tiny little tires and no styling to see at all was very disapointing. the price on the camaro is to much for just a car with potential.you would have to spend another 10 grand just to get it to look decent. been a fan of chevy's for ever. but they have lost me on this one.just an opinion. i would take a first gen body with the lsx tech anyday.

I'm a GM guy through and through, but I can see why the company's going bust. Just as the Camaro was a late answer to the Mustang at its inception, the new retro styling attempt we see now is just a very late answer to the hugely popular new retro Mustang. In the '60s, the Camaro showed up late, but was a superior car, now it's just late. The styling is attractive, but not great. GM just doesn't get retro styling, look at the SSR, ugly as homemade sin and utterly pointless. I hope the Camaro doesn't feel like other GM vehicles, as far as interior quality and fit and finish are concerned. The interior of nearly every GM car produced from the late '80s on falls to pieces in about a decade and that's something people remember. Look at new Cadillacs, the interiors look and feel extremely cheap! Better materials are used on base model Accords and Jettas. Nobody will spend $40k on something that feels like you could crush it with your bare hand. I pray that the Camaro and all other GM products sell well, for the sake of the company. As far as discontinuing Buick, let it be known that Buick is the best selling car in China! With a sales market that big just opening up, let's capitalize and sel them as many of our cars as they'll take, before they start building them, of course.

GM really lost out on this one. EVERYONE knew what the car was going to look like for two years before it came out. It lost the shock value.

Just went to the local dealership to see the camaro, I like it! Its a nice looking car, I thought the six would priced a bit lower, hope they can sell a lot of them. 27k sticker v6 loaded with sun roof in black. When i saw the sticker I assumed it was a v8 car- not! They told me a v8 will be near 35k WOW! I asked them if that was competitive with the mustang, they said this doesn't compare to the mustang and went right in to the speech about IRS in the car. Maybe IM out of touch with new cars but I got sticker shock. The drivetrain is awesome, the interior - lets just say they have to cut cost somewhere, the guages are a bit lame, but nothing autometer couldn't handle.

I think one of the selling points on the car on the interior is the 4 pack gauge cluster. Kinda reminds me of the '69 gauge cluster as well.
ALTHOUGH, it takes more than a 4 pack gauge cluster for me to buy a car! lol
