Just curious is anyone has experience with the AutoTwirler rotisserie. I looked it over at SEMA and talked to the reps. Seems nice. Just trying to decide if it would be worth it. Seems like it would really help with finishing the underside but wouldn't it get in the way for things like firewall work? And you can't really do any panel replacement with the body on the rotisserie can you due to possibility of the body getting out of shape?

Again, just trying to get some feedback to help me justify it. I really like the idea of being able to move the body around. I've done the underside without one once and that is no fun at all :-).

Seeing as though I'll be up in the area of their shop this summer I can avoid shipping so that is why i'm considering it. Well, that and I've toyed with the idea for a while :D .

Worth every penny ! I wont do a full build without one ever again. Just being able to tilt the car or even turn it all the way over has made life so much easier. The guys at Auto Twirler are great too...good customer service.

As for replacing body panels....I wouldnt do it on a rotisserie. The car should be firmly planted ....preferably with it on the ground all level etc. You can definitely do patch panels and firewall etc, but I wouldnt do a full quarter etc. Its pretty easy to work around near the firewall etc.

Some guys build there own cheaper... thats an option too.

I highly recommend their products. I bought the standard rotisserie w/ the optional blue powder coat back in Jan./Feb. this year. I couldn't imagine building my car any other way. It is truely worth it's weight in gold. I'm actually talking to them now about building a custom body cart for my '67 Camaro so I can replace panels and transport (IE) media blasting, paint, etc. Great people to work with.

I love mine! I also like how it breaks down to relatively small pieces for easy storage.

You guys are making an easy sell  . I hope you are getting commission.

In that picture it looks like there is a lot more room to work on the firewall than I had thought. Are those their standard mounts or something you made?

+1 for the Autotwirler, for all the reasons already mentioned. The quality and customer service are first-rate.

Unless you can buy the steel on the cheap / get it for free, and have the time to fab one yourself. I was going to build one, but my wife saw me looking the autotwirler over at a Goodguys show (to look at how it was designed, etc) and she went back to the guy and ordered one for me. (Yes, she is definately a keeper!)

Regarding firewall work: The body dolly that they make is also extremely handy for situations such as this. It comes with adjustable height stanchions with clamps which attach at the pinchwelds on the bottoms of the rockers. Highly recommended. -Rob

I have had 30+ body's on/off my twirler to blast car body's/ powder coat body's.
outside of a stripped thread or 2 (normal wear and tear in my book)
no problems.

I have had our Rotisserie for 5 years or so, It saves so much time and makes the work that much easier. We have the ability to fabricate pretty well and I decided that I would buy theirs, Unless you have alot of free time, I don't think you could build one for much less.

I agree, I figured out the material cost out, only would save about $400 at the time.
then still have to engineer it, time, labor... then no warranty

worth the money

As everyone else has said, well worth the investment. 20 cars later, ours works like a champ- but it has at LEAST a dozen different colors to it now. Break down size is great too, cuz we all know equipment sits around from time to time.

Consider upgrading the wheels if you plan on rolling it around alot.

Hard to build for less!

X2!! The wheels are the only thing that need upgrading. Nice piece!!

Which AutoTwirler are you guys using? The regular or the plus? Any benefits for getting the plus as opposed to the regular? Have you used any of their other products like the dollies or body carts? I'm thinking of picking one up also.

I talked to them today and it sounds like they have a 100$ off special going on. Maybe they should become a Lat-G sponsor and offer up a group buy :unibrow: . Only thing is shipping is a biotch with these things because of the amount of steel.

I've already talked to Scott at AutoTwirler about building a 1st gen Camaro body cart. I've already sent him plans with exact measurements. Still waiting to hear back. I mentioned to him that there would probably be a lot of interest and I would arrange a group purchase if he wanted to sell multiple carts. I know I could just build it myself, but I have their standard rotisserie and I'm very impressed with their work.

By the way, if you don't want to worry about figuring out a way to lift your car approx. 3+ feet up in the air to mount to rotisserie, buy the Auto Twirler Plus. I wish I would have paid a little extra when I bought my standard model.

get the plus, you won't regret it,I know, I love mine, trying to lift or adjust height on regular one would be a big PITA,but with the plus model,it's a piece of cake, body cart is good to have when doing frame-off restoration

I'm using the plus. If you go back and read my earlier post in this thread you will see how I am using their dolly, as well.

I've had my AutoTwirler plus now for almost 5 years. I can't imagine doing this type of work any other way. They also sell Camaro specific brackets.

My subframe is welded to my subframe connectors, so removing sub is something I dont want to do. What would be to use to roll around body with attached subframe? The standard body cart or something else?

Jay, you can attach the autotwirler dolly at the rocker pinchwelds...then have the back of the car supported by the rotisserie (or, another dolly)....

Thanks RWhite. I called Scott at Autotwirler and the standard body cart will work with a subframe attached for a car dolly and the rotisserie will work as well.

Edit: BTW, Scott told me he has lowered the Auto Plus by $100.00. The lower cost is not on the website yet. Also he has different Camaro mounts that are 4.5" long that allows 69 rear valance to clear rotisserie better.

No problem Jay. The Autotwirler folks are great to deal with and the prices they charge are very reasonable. The stuff is built very well. -Rob

For the DIY guys out there who don't plan on doing 20 cars make your OWN.

Go to harbor freight or pep boys buy 2 engine hoists, cost sub 400.00 easy I plan on useing the 99.00 per HF ones. Cut them up add some stock steel and you have you self a DIY rotisserie.

Plans using hoists and other DIY ideas are all over the net. No disrespect to the two manufactures mentioned but for the cost conscious 1.5-2k is better spent on the car not the tool.

XLexus, believe me, I had planned to weld one up. I have done a lot of welding so I know exactly what it would take to do it. I was at the goodguys show, eyeballing the Autotwirler rotisserie and taking a couple of pictures.

Later, while I was talking with someone else, My wife went back to the Autotwirler guys, and ordered one for me. Yep, she is a keeper.

In retrospect, I'm really glad that she did, since my free time these days is quite limited. In my case, more often than not, it's TIME saved, that is better spent on the car.

No one is going to build the equal of an Autotwirler for $400, using new steel. The Autotwirler Deluxe costs $1100.

It can certainly be done for your proposed $400 and maybe even less, if you are getting the steel at scrap yard prices (as I was going to do) or for free, etc...if you have the connections, time and patience to find it all.

Another great option is to find a rotisserie that someone no longer needs, they do pop up from time to time.
