View Full Version : Malitude Ver 2.1....... winter changes

finished the car last year, had a ball cruising around to local shows, drove it up to Hot August Nights, etc. But I had that affliction I get often, where there were things that I'd do different if I did them again.

After SEMA I decided to do some of those changes. Some mild stuff like going flat clear over the carbon fiber (thanks Anvil for the idea!) and to Scott and Kurt at Autokraft for figuring out the perfect low sheen clear to use. Also wanted to go back to eggshell black on the dash, interior and console, firewall, inner fenders, etc. The dark gray looked great in the shop but look weird in certain light outside. I sold my Forgelines to help fund the changes, and went back to my 17" Vintage wheels. There's also another change I made which shouldn't be too tough to pick out.............. :wow:

Anyway, here's a couple pics of where I'm at so far. I'll do a complete update when I'm done, and this time it's done for good..............

I love these wheels a lot more. IMO, the other wheels were a little to Bling Bling.

I like the new color. looks more old school.

But, I also love the other color, why the change?

The other looked great about 90% of the time. But in certain light and at certain angles it had a burgundy look that I did not care for. To change the dark gray interior and engine compartment stuff I had to pull the car almost completely apart anyway, so when the painter said "you know, we can change the exterior color too at this point....................... "

Looks awesome. The silver jumps out at you much better than the dark gray.

I have seen this car quite a few times before just now realized I saw this car at Hot August Nights too.

New color looks great but of course the old color looked good too.

What silver is that? Some silver cars go flat and lose all the character of the car. This really highlights the shape and character lines of the car.

Have you thought about going darker on the wheel color? I think a charcoal or magnesium color would really make the paint pop and be a good contrast to the bright paint.

I am an art major:_paranoid

I have thought of changing the spoke color, but I wanted to see it completed first to decide. It's a new Mercedes silver, cost enough, so good to know it works. I really like it.

Thanks.

Congrats on the new look Jody,

I was thinking about your car the other day and wondered what had happened to it, it has been quiet for a long time. Glad to see it again. It looks great, I prefer the lighter silver but I might be biased. Sure you don't want some black stripes on it too?

So this time it is only cosmetic, no mechanical bugs to iron out I hope.

No we want some track videos of you and Charley fighting for the corner.

Jody congrats on the color change. Alot of guys would leave the old color and then be reminded of fact they did not change the color everytime they see that certain angle.

I have some parts off my truck currently to do some similar things that nobody else will ever notice, But If it is not right, I will always know what could have been.

OK Jody...who ya kidding?

Seriously, excellent choice on both the color and the wheels.I totally understand what you're saying about the color,my friend who painted my '69 also painted another '69 a very similar shade to yours.I was there the next day when it was still in the booth because I was picking up my c/f spoiler that I had them lay on more clear while they were there.I remember them test-fiting the spoiler by hand on the car in the booth and it looked killer, that color really was rich. But when they rolled it out into the sun,it almost took on kinda a feminine lavendar tone that really was off-putting.I would not have been happy had that been my car.

Bet it really pops in the sun...
Oh and PS:I think you need to go back to charcoal on the spokes against that Silver.

used the old paint job as a base and blocked the car again, sealed it, and shot the new color.

Thanks everyone for the comments, much appreciated.

getting close. Here's the flat clear on the carbon fiber wheel, dash, and console, plus changed the wheel from polished to silver powdercoat and had the paddle shifter anodized black.

Changed all the cold air plumbing on the engine to an eggshell black also instead of titanium, makes it disappear somewhat. Also had the headers coated.

Jody, Don't make me come over there and hit you...

Looks good :) I like the old color a little better though. The new color is just a bit to "bright" for me.

Layed down 455 RWHP yesterday in the GTO :) Im slowly making my way up to the 900-1000 RWHP
