Guys i have had my car up to 170mph on the high way, with a 68 first gen frond spoiler, and the 3 conecting rods /braces ore however you whant to call them that came along with the spoiler
.
Im going to change the rear gear ratio into a 3.08 from a 3.42. and going to ad upgrade to a new sollid roller cam that will give me around 70 more hp and 400 more rpm range.
The 170 mph run was done at 5200 rpm. engine now can run 6200 rpm . my question is if i reanforce the spoiler with 2 aditional rods ore braces will it hold up to 200 mph??? as that is my goal to reatch............. i have read that it was safe upto 140mph in its curend state, but have gone past that speed more then once..... david

Is a Frond spoiler what keeps foliage from negatively impacting your aerodynamics?

I think that is only a problem in the tropics and certain catholic holidays.

David, you might find something using links from this page http://purplesagetradingpost.com/sumner/bvillecar/bvillelinks.htm#Aerodynamics

I need to do something like that on my Firebird, I've flexed it back so much over 140 that the paints starting to peel and I had flex additive in it when I painted it. I've been thinking about a splitter and strut rods like the race vipers come with.

Shiro, David's in Europe and does much better with our language than I could ever possibly do with his.

David-

If you plan to do runs above 170mp, I'd spend the money and get an aluminum adjustable spoiler from jakes. Even though the stock unit is plastic, it's still a safety concern if it comes off at speed. Don't chance it!

David, if you are doing 170mph on a public highway, stupidity is your biggest concern, not your front spoiler.

I knew this comment was coming!

Frankly, I don't think I am comfortable doing that speed in a 40 year old car - I don't care how many upgrades and aftermarket parts it has.

Now in a newer German car, 170+ feels like 100. :)

David, are you saying your goal is 200 on the highway?

Guys in some euro countrys you CAN drive the crap out of your car. mine isend one of them , but 60 min away from my house i can go all out.
ohcbird do you have a website link from jakes
Mazspeed in contrary to 90% of the people who CLAIM there car can do this and that, we actualy PROVE our cars can do it . what is the point of building a G-Mashine car and babby pamper it and polish the cr.p out of it then talk al big and bad what the nrs are.
also belive me we can drive a bit in europe , i did 2200 km in 15.5 hours tru Holland Belgium Luxumberg Frensh Spain. we are still testing the crap out of the car to get it reliable for necst year Cannonball runn europe... anyway is it posible to make the spoiler more rigid at higher speeds!!!

Sure looked to be traffic to me on the videos. But then again it didn't look to be 170mph either.

i really doubt that 170 and in the last vid when it shows 140-150 that speedo's gotta be off pretty bad, other wise those other car must have already been going over 100-110.

what are you using to log/back the claims of these 170 runs?

Im not going to get involved into a pissing contest.im here to find out IF the spoiler can hold up 200mph speed... if you guys think the car didnt do it its fine, i gues the Tom Tom sat nav runns backwards. http://2004r.com/speedoCalc/rpmcalc.shtml 315 35 17 overal hight 25.8

I hope you're not saying your g meter on your dash is a tom tom are you? I happen to have a gmeter in my car so I know what one looks like and what it does. The highest speed I saw in your car was 142, and who knows if that's even calibrated. Even if you did 170 mph, you're doing it in traffic, not very smart IMHO.

TomTom satilite navigation is the most calibrated speed you can read in you car . witch ""wasend"" in the car when the longer video was made.. As for traffic we have diferend rules then you guys have in the usa.
we have a slow lane on the right then a midium lane and on the left a fast lane. (sometimes just a slow lane and a fast lane) in the Netherlands we do have speed limits, but in germany we have the same rules only you can drive as fast as you whant. IF you disied to drive fast you put your left turn indicator on so that the other trafic in front of you can see you coming knowing your going to pass them fast.... as for calibration chek the link and data out in my former post it was acurate within 150 rpm diferense. noughf said if you dont mind.

Try this; you won't see a picture on the site, but he made some of the spoilers you see on several of the cars here.
