I heard on the news today in Worcester, MA, there were a BUNCH of layoffs.
The city laid off 44 policemen, 27 firemen, 37 department works people, & 42 town hall workers!! Man, that is a lot of layoffs!!:_paranoid :wow:
I wish those that got laid off the best.

Strange thing is, here in L.A., LAPD is actively recruiting more cops! Nurses are in big demand out here too!

Mass as a whole is on a downward spiral. Because of taxes, people and businesses have been fleeing to New Hampshire. Connecticut is in the same boat for the most part. I certainly wouldn't be laying off police, fire, and medical though. I'd look elsewhere first if at all possible.

I have to agree with you there John.
It's just a shame that all this has to happen. A real shame.

They're possibly laying off 63 firemen, my cousin is #63. Did you see 3 weeks ago the Police Academy graduated 36 and after the ceremony took their badges back?
My father-in-law works for city hall. He just finished up the budget and barely made it through the cut. Of 300 non-union city employees, 150 were laid off.
This state is a totally corrupt, completely mismanaged sewer and it deserves to be in this position. It's completely self-inflicted misery, and I hope the rest of the country can learn from our screw ups.
Unfortunately, I don't have a prayer of escaping for the foreseeable future.:censored:

As a politician this is the first place you go for layoffs because it gets the most public responce. Then the all useless political waste can point fingers in every direction blaming each other for the crime rate skyrocketing! Ben's right, this state is a joke. Four more political hires this week from the governer for $100k plus each, some in state agency's that were created for these hires! JOKE JOKE JOKE!!!
BTW...I am a state employee lucky enough to still have my job and working my a#$ off to make sure I keep it.

Police jobs still aren't in demand here, I have an Associates and Bachelors in Criminal Justice and can't use it due to this economy.

Give it time. Once the crime rate rises because of unemployment and personal money issues, crime should go up in my opinion, unfortunately.
But, once the economy gets back to order, the demand should be there again.

At least I can say that I didn't. It's bigger than that though, it's the backwards way of thinking here. Blame the voters, I do.
We currently have one of the highest exodus rates in the country (12th) and we were hovering around 2nd-6th for a long time:
