I'm taking the plunge soon on my 69 Firebird. I'm planning on doing some fairly basic paint and body work to fix a few dings and chips in the finish plus I've removed the factory aluminum moldings and "gills" from the rocker panels and front fenders. That has left me with open mounting holes of various sizes to be filled. I have some past experience but it's been about 15 years ago so I'll be nearly starting from scratch. I know I'll need a mig welder and the basic tools of the trade but I was wondering if I should invest in any of the educational dvd's available like Kevin Tetz's "Paintucation" series or similar? I'm out here in the "boonies" so I don't know if a formal tng course is available or not. Thanks for your responses.

I moved the thread in hopes of more traffic/answers.

FWIW I believe knowledge is everything! If there's no local course to take I would certainly buy the DVD...I have heard good things about it. And practice some on scrap panels/sheet metal.

You can do it!!

You're a brave man! LOL Take your time and like Antony said practice on some scrap before you go after the car.

Gear Up!

Thanks for the positive thoughts/words. I worked for a friend of mine yrs ago in his bodyshop and learned some basic skills. It's just been so long. I think it's natural progression to get more confidence in your abilities as you move from basic projects to increasingly more advanced ones. I just need to make sure I'm investing in quality tools and not wasting money on cheap crap or at the other end of the spectrum, overkill.
