c5-c6 weel hub ats spindle

I want to put the ats spindles on my firebird. And was looking into the hubs. It seems that the SKF Wheel hub. for the c5/c6 vette is the one to use. now were can i get these at a good price?

The SKF units are OEM for the ZR1... and since they havent been on the market too long... I wouldnt expect to see better pricing for a while. Afterall... you are looking at purchasing a 'NEW' Corvette component. The only way to get them cheaper is to purchase them by the palet. We found this out when Tyler made the initial purchase order from Delphi... and even then the price break wasnt all that good until you purchased like 10+ palets.

The price at Pfadt and Vensteel... isnt all that bad. If you want some comic relief... go to the dealer and ask what they want for the bearing cartridge... you'll gladly pay the $380 that it's being offered at after that.

I purchased a set of C6 BCA bearings from my local parts house for $365.00 for a pair. The part number was 513139. If you google that number you will get a bunch of hits to sort through. They came complete with studs and speed sensors. Speaking of studs, I want to change the stock metric ones to 1/2" anyone done this and can share the details?

sounds like that if i want that part, that is the price. I can find the timken hubs for 185$ all over the place. growing up i was always told that they made the good stuff. has anyone used these?

Yup... and it all depends on the knurl daimeter that you use.

Option one:

The standard ARP 1/2x20x3" that are used are a 0.6250" knurl... but there is no drill on the planet that you can easily use that will make the right interfearance fit... that they require. So... they will have to be machined.

Or find another knurl that will require less attention.


Option two:

You can use the 1/2x20x3" screw in studs. This will require a 29/64ths drill... but it is also more difficult... as there isnt very much room to get the actual stud pass the three bolt flange to screw the stud into the flange.


And an FYI...

The BCA bearing should only be used for a cruiser... as, it is the most affordable... it is also, the lowest quality of the bearings available. Be very wary and careful of components just because they are cheap. This is a component that you SHOULD NOT skimp out on. It can be the difference in you just replacing a wheel bearing... or... replacing a car from failure of a single component that was used beyond it useful limitations.

By the way.. instead of changing my front studs to 1/2 inch I changed my rear studs to 12mm.

I was easier since they are screw in. I had to special order them since nobody carried 12mm x 60mm (to be a bit longer).

I have extras since I had to buy 100 of them. lol

Actutally I sold most of them.. made back my money (might of made a dollar profit)..

I still have a couple sets left. I'm saving one set "just in case".. lol

Just to add some more information:

Up until Timken started making hub assemblies, there was one manufacturer at a time making these hubs out of three. Quality and appearance is almost exactly the same for each. Normally I would agree that BCA bearings are "moderate" quality, but theirs was just a reboxed hub from one of three manufacturers.

I talked to the design engineer at SKF about the new ZR1 hubs. These things are amazing and should be considered for anybody who puts any REAL abuse on their car. If your car is 90% street, I wouldn't bother with them.

We looked at redrilling the C6 hubs for 1/2" studs, but there are very few studs out there that have the correct knurl. Common 1/2" studs require too large of a hole to be drilled and significantly compomises the strength because it leaves little material between it and the outer hub diameter.

Sure deal.. Let me go check my stock to make sure I have enough... Would suck if I really only had 9.. lol

Penny is '02 Prowler Orange. I prefer OEM colors since they are much easier to repair if damaged.

What colors do you prefer? Blues, Reds, Metal tones?

Correct 325 each for c5/c6 and 375 each for zr1. GM list on the zr1 hubs is 500 each.

last time i talked to the guys at ats they said that they did not have hubs, but they had lots of spindles. and you could buy your own hubs and send them to ats and they would put them together.

Really? hmmm I ordered ATS spindles 2 months ago from SC&C and haven't gotten anything but a bunch of stories...

ATS did have spindles some weeks ago,most of those were shipped to fill older backorders when the decision was made to ship them without hub/bearing packs. I just got off the phone with Tyler. It`s the first we`ve been able to get a hold of him for weeks. They`ve been having a lot of problems but things are (just) starting to come together. Their phone system was screwed up for a couple weeks where they were able to call out but couldn`t recieve incoming. That`s cool now. Tyler is shipping 9 of our backorders right now and will be sending us tracking info,which we`ll forward to our clients. The major backup has been a fried motherboard in the Mazak 7 axis machining center that machines the spindle forgings. Apparently they seldom go bad and they`re having a hard time getting one quickly. Once that`s fixed they should only be about 2 weeks until they can start filling the rest of their backorders. Tyler`s going through a tough transition right now but I think he and ATS will come out of it leaner and meaner. Mark SC&C
