I thought that I would take the time and share my field trip with all of you.

I had some friends come in from out of town for the big car show and swap meet last weekend, and as a side trip, we went up to DSE.

The sad thing is DSE is only about an hour from my house as I live in south Charlotte and they are in Mooresville and I have never made the time to get up there. Stacey was sick and Kyle was chasing down some parts so we had our personal tour directed by Linsey. ( I am sure that I am butchering the spelling of everyone's name) Linsey works the front desk and handles a lot of the incoming calls. Her customer service skills and product knowledge are very impressive.

She took us out to the shop and let us poke around some of the cars that were being worked on. I saw SW's black beast getting the final touches before the car was to be picked up. What a great car to see in person...I got a little something on the quarter, but I am sure that a rag will take it off. (that would be drool for all of you with their mind in the gutter) You really cannot fully appreciate a 335 tire until you see it in person. I thought my 285's were cool...I guess size does matter.

There was also a yellow 69 sans motor and trans, but I do not recall the owners name. Very nice looking car, I believe it had a Martz front end..anyway this thing is going to be spectacular when completed. All of the paint work is done and it is together. Just needs running gear and interior. I also saw a 68 convert and 69 coupe in primer.

Their 4 link set up is slick and wish it had been out 10 months ago so I could have put it on my car. I did see a couple of cars getting it installed and it looks like an easy install.

All in all we had a blast. As mentioned here before, the shop is a neat as a pin and you can tell as soon as you walk in the door it is a first class operation. Kyle should be happy to know that his employees take as much pride in the place as he does and his shop makes that kind of imprression without he or Stacey being there.

Cool. Good review, Payton. I have some pictures from the shop and some of the cars that Stuart sent to me, not sure if I should post them or not. I'm sure Stuart will chime in. :)

Yea, I was going to try and hook up with Stuart while he was here reviewing his next project car with Kyle, but life got in the way. My 5 year old had a scoccer game, my wife wanted to go out on the boat, blah, blah, blah...you know how it is.

I think Stuart and Kyle were too busy getting a little rubber in wheel wells at the local strip with Stuart and Stacey's camaros anyway.

Hey Payton,
As I said in one of my post, That DS&E was a 1st class set-up
I also belive the Yellow camaro you are talking about, Right next to all the floor displays and right next to franks office?? and was next to SW's Car, I think that was one of Wayne Due's setups. Had the corvette susspension on it?
I about fell out of my chair (LMAO) on your comment ( I guess size does matter) So true, those 335's of SW's are so sweet.
thats the set-up I want to go with, but cannot make up my mind on weather or not to cut up my a particular Z11 I have or total rework a drag car (coupe) I have. Or pick up another project car???

I probably should have gone for the full meal deal on the tub, but I only took it to the frame rail. I could squeeze a 315 maybe.

I was not sure on the frame, but you are probably right that it is a wayne due.

It would be hard to cut up a Z11 car. Obviously you could always put it back if you wanted to and like it has been said in countless posts. It is your car do with it what you want.

I hope that you two dont take up all the space, they say they are going to start on my car at the turn of the year. Maybe I should give them a call and remind them.

I talked to DSE the other day and Kyle and Frank are going to be at the Good Guys event Sept 30-Oct 1 at the Texas Motor Speedway with their displays. Heck, even that set up that they take with them is impressive.
You Texas guys (and by you Texas guys I mean me also ) go and see them.

The thing about that picture is that is only one half the shop most of the real work gets done on the other side of the left wall.

There is a 69 or 68 mustang that they are about to start work on, but it was not in the main finishing area.

I just wanted to say that is a very well organized shop. Did your shop do a
5 S program. (HA, HA) That is what our factory is doing now. It looks like you have only what you need and that is it and it is in its proper place till you need it. Things work better like that!

For all the love that shops like Unique Performance, Rad Rides and Year One get...one wonders when some is going to be thrown DS&E's way. I would love to see a feature on TLC 'Rides' about Detroit Speed and Engineering. Why not? It's a great story. A husband and wife team build this first rate company up from the ground and not only provide Hot Rod services but also design, test, develop and sell parts to the general public. Unfortunately I'm guessing one of the prerequisites for noteritiy on 'Rides' is that you build custom one-off's for celebrities and pampered millionaires. If it's not a 'Sick Fish' or a Ridler contender they look the other way.

was it a fastback or coupe. did you happen to ask what they were going to do to it?

B Schein

They had a coupe sitting out back last time I was there. Kyle said they were doing a rust experiment with it. Maybe they changed their minds and decided to work on it instead.

I'll gladly donate some rust :)

Seriously, what's a rust experiment.

Kudos to Kyle/Stacy - they're terrific.
