Hi All
Hope someone will be able to advise me on this decision
I currently am building a 1970 RS SS Camaro no matching numbers.
Turning it into a Super Muscle Car to use as a runner but maybe a bit of track on weekends
I have sourced a Chevy 350 Bare Block Casting number 3970010 4 Bolt

I am trying to decide to i go down the turbo route or Stroker route

if so what are ones suggestion and what would be the kinda horsepower i could get out of this motor

Also i know id i go turbo i need to have a EFI

Any help will be greatly appreciatted

Greetings From South Africa

Hugh

It depends the type of racing and what budget you have.Could stroke it now and add the turbos later on.

Well i want to spend about $1200 since living in SA part are not cheap especially when i need to import
shipping kills me
Was thinking of going the 383CI route with the Eagle Rotating Assembly but wouldnt have a clue on a Carb

not sure about S Africa, but a $1200 budget here won't get you far. Not sure you can even do a stroker by the time you buy everything you need such as gaskets, bearings, stroker kit, machining costs for the block etc. Forget about turbos with that budget.

What pricing are you seeing over there for stroker kits?

Bill at a GM dealer (City by the Beach) sells me a new 2008 6.2 for $3900.00.
These are "over-run" production engines off the line, limited availability.

I install the GMPP "spider" carb intake, a camshaft
(246/252 .580" 116 C/L), a carb.

I use my ignition to produce around 600 SFHP.

A 600HP engine, running, for $5250.00 (NEW) in parts, is a bargin.
I love GM engines.

Lance, BTW LS-9's are now available@$21,000 for GM

Personally i've been down the twin turbo road and I wouldn't do it again.

I am planning on using a LS style motor / 6 speed in the next project.

Nothing crazy - just a simple build

Take a look at this car

very well done

You could get some decent heads and a nice 650 cfm 5bbl with that much. Beyond that, I'm not sure you need a 383 on your budget. Funny thing is, you'll be lucky to get 10 more hp if all things remain equal, from the 350 to the 383. You could get a decent amount of torque though. But why spend the money.

I would have your existing heads ported - as far as 500$ will get you. Then I would buy a dual plane, 650 4bbl carb, and a nice cam to fit your application. Tack on headers if that will fit your budget. I think you'll be surprised.

$1200, huh? Nice headers + 150 shot of NOS. As in nitrous, not "Noss."

Hi All thanks for all the input
Finally Traded my 350 block for a LS1 with a T56 manual box
so i am trully excited
was given 2 T5 turbos as well
So i guess i am going the twin turbo route on the LS1
Just need to decide where to start

Yeah i traded my bare block
for a LS1 and T56 Manual box
Reason was the gent wanted my bareblock and i had to pay in some cash.
The Turbos are from Mitsubushi and they are T5's it cost me a case of beers

Damn i love South Africa and the battering trade
