View Full Version : Rad Rides 56 Chrysler/Viper Pics inside Incredible!!

This is the current big $$$$ project at rad rides. They have to finish this by the middle of feb for the world of wheels in Wisconsin. I spent some time at the shop talking to Troy about this car and he so elegantly put it this way.

"With the nova, you know you're screwed. That thing just looks mean and the noise it makes gives its attitude away. The deal with the '56 Chrysler is that it tucks you into bed and then tea-bags your ass!"

Seriously this car is incredible. They chopped up a late model dodge viper that had been in a wreck and used all of its suspension and some of the rear end drive train. Then they found a 56 Chrysler 300 and grafted it to the viper stuff. Pretty much everything else on the car is one off.

Running a nextel cup motor with twin turbos in the fenders. Best part is that its being built for this sweet lady named Nancy!
Enjoy!

Started the same week as our nova.

Most of you may not realize how hard this crew of guys work.

Here is the car on Dec 27 and no they haven't even started working on the frame yet.

ps - most of the guys had only taken Christmas Day off for the entire month of January and they probably still haven't taken a day off since. Did i mention most of the time they were doing 16 to 20 hour days.

These are some of the hardest working car guy's you will ever meet.

Mick

My guess is that if it is ready for the Milwaukee show in mid February, it will still be ready for Detroit in March.

Owner lives here in Milwaukee area so that is the push for Milwaukee World of Wheels. This is for the wife of the guy who owns the gray 32 that Troy built five or six years ago.

Troy told me about a week ago that the "Sniper" is at the Petersen Museum

Thats right, i was on the petersen museum in november the sunday before SEMA and there it was.
The owner (that has appeared on Rides with the sniper) died and the sniper and one more car of his was donated to the Petersen Museum.

I think he means that it a shame that such an over the top car is not held back for Detroit were it would have a chance to go for the Ridler or even a Great 8 award.
Depending on what showed up, a car like this could take the Ridler.

I love this thing!

Ive been following this build from conception and wow just gets nicer everyday in typical Troy fashion!
There was a guy talking to Troy at GG Columbus asking about the frame of this car when they had it there on display he was of course drooling over the frame and Troy said on a scale of 1 to 100 this frame was a 10 compared to the 36 they built for the ridler car! I about crapped because this frame is a work of art that 36 although had the chassis and suspension custom built to where this one has a viper unit, personally this 56 and everything it brings too the table is the next level we all talk about!
Now lets talk about power wooooooo weeeeeee lets see a nascar motor with not one but two turbos HELLOOOO and i f im not mistaken this car is being built for the owners wife! The color is fantastic too, Nice to see a great unique color again from troy compared to a a recent build color.
Congrats Troy on another blow everyone away build,

Im sure all the guys that WORK on there cars will know how that is!

They did not want to build it for Riddler,And yes it could compete,The owner decided in November that he would like his wife to see it at the Wis. show. That is why they have been going 24/7 to get it done. When you have a shop full of talent and no budget anything is possible.I have been there working in there shop on 6 different cars for Troy and have seen first hand how much effort will be put in to these builds and it is not something that everyone can do without the resource's and talent. And to answer some of the emails I have gotten,No i did not have the time to do the Interior at there shop in this car, So I do not have anymore pictures than what is already there.....Troy asked me to do the 300 Interior first,We have had some health problems with my Mom and needed to stay close to home.Would have been good to be part of it but family has to come first.

Doesn't qualify because the motor and chassis has been seen under construction at other shows. I've heard of cars being DQed because the engine builder displayed the motor on a stand in a vendor booth at a show. They mean it when they say the car must debut in Detroit.

I'll have to double check, but if memory serves me correctly (I'll have to check with Bob Millard) the last update to the rule was that the car couldn't be in paint and publicly shown or in print prior to the show. Bare metal is fine. All that changed after after Chip won with the Grandmaster. That car had been seen in print in baremetal. So last I knew, as long as it hadn't been publicly shown or in print while painted, it was okay. However, I could be wrong.

Looks like its going to be at the Mich. for the Ridler after all, from the looks of there updated site at Troys. Dew to the fact that the wisconsin deadline was looking a little unrealistic the owners decided the quailty of the car was more important instead of rushing the build they would reveal it at Detroit

This should make for an interesting show anyone know of any other high end builds heading to detroit this year or is everone keeping there builds hush hush? Could be back to back!

It will not go for ridler because it was shown in columbus as said by a few peeps on here. THe bottom is speedlined the color of the chassis, because Roger is going to drive the hell out of it. This car is so remarkable in so many ways and sooooo so nice and with that many details it really forces you to look at all the details. witch are amazing but maybe its just me but that pin stripe job on that car seperating the colors is horrible again at that level and it looks as if the striper got lost at times like on the intake witch is a focal point and quite the peice of art work by wilsons and to stripe where they did plus up the back of it just really looks like an after thought, IMO again with a car like this and at this level that stripe job is just not that nice even on the value covers etc. But like i said with everything sooooo nice something simple as that is so obvious.

Visited today to drop off their shirts and they where gone!! Had lunch with Levi and he said the car fired up first try and they played around with the stereo before heading out. The shop was a ghost town..freaky. Detroit rock city here we come! '56 will be right up in front when you walk in to the show...not sure on where the nova will be.

It's too bad that this couldn't have qualified for the Ridler. From all of the great 8 pics that I've seen, This car could have probably won. Awesome work!:hail:

More pics please.

OMG!!! I just saw the great 8 pics, and was disturbed to not see this car on the list. Had to do a search as to why it couldn't qualify. Sorry to hear :( . Amazing car. Top notch group of people.

So what kept it from being a Ridler possibility?

So what kept it from being a Ridler possibility?

From what I understand, it is because the frame and engine were shown at a show proir to Detroit. A Ridler candidate must not have been shown before, either in part or as a whole.

also the underside of the floorpans were duraguarded or something...not pretty shiny paint like the topside...it was hard to find pics of it but if you look closely at the final build pics you will see what im talking about...confusing though since the frame is dam pretty

This is what makes Troy so good in my opinion. He can take a body style or model that wasn't the best looking/most popular car in its day and do something like this with it. It still looks like the same model, but so many touches here and there that add to it and don't take away from the original car. The engine bay looks amazing, and the bumpers and how they sit in relation to the body is unreal.
