Well, my gold car is now blown apart for paint. Will have it up on the rotisserie within the next week or so. My nephew from Lawn Guyland will be out here for a visit in a week or so.... little does he know that he will be scraping the goo off the belly of this thing to earn his keep before it goes over to the media blaster's. More gory teardown photos at the link below.

That looks great. You have been busy. If you can, take pics of the blasting process. We all love pics here....
Well it is actually for a self serving interest cause I'm going to have to do the same to mine. :D
The body seems to be in pretty good shape.
I love when someone makes progress on their project (unlike me, lol).

Thanks guys…I will take some photos of the car at media blast, I should be able to be there while he does it. Yes this one is a really solid body. When I was in school back in NY, I had a 68 that rusted away from underneath me, so, when I went looking for a 69 for my project back in 2002, finding a car with little or no rust was a big priority for me. I was glad when I found this one with it’s sun-faded 20+ year old crummy earl scheib paint job… This car took a tap in the rear tail panel at some point, which is full of bondo, so that is coming out and getting replaced with a GM NOS one which I had the good fortune to find...

Steve-o, Man...I...need some time to think about gold. Your car looks absolutely great in it (esp with the black/red graphics...awesome work by the way...wish I still lived on LI so I could come see it. Maybe next time I get back there (Mattituck)).
...but...I guess I'm just not too jazzed about gold. Maybe it's because that's the color it is now (kinda) and I'm looking for a CHANGE to happen...Hmmm...
I know it would be "different", and all that...The color I am most set upon at the moment is one of a group of reddish bronze-like colors by DuPont that really "pops" in the sun...I have changed my mind on color many times so far.... When I shoot the belly of it, I'll finally be committed. :D
I will shoot an old fender with some and clear it first chance I get, and post some photos. Won't be for a while.
Anthony, I really like what you did building that rotisserie. Nice Job. I was going to do the exact same thing, but Michelle ran off and bought me one at the Pleasanton Goodguys show from Autotwirler (the one w/jacks). How could I say no?

Thanks!! Man what a woman...I'd accept it too!!!
Here's a little inspiration for your nephew while he's knee deep in undercoating! Actually it isn't bad at all, I just heated it up and scraped it right of...then came the time consuming part, but it sounds like your blaster will have all that fun. Next car will be chem. stripped before I do anything, just couldn't swing the $1500 four years ago, oh well at least I know my car VERY well now!!
Also, here's a color I tried on last weekend, it's the PT Cruiser red, it looks great (very red) in the sun but a little too copper otherwise...so the hunt continues!!
Have fun with it!!

Hey Anthony I think that is a really nice Red. There is another really neat red that they are using on the current Lincoln Navigator (and maybe some other Ford products as well) which really has a nice color to it and real vibrant highlight in the sun...Bottom of your car looks real good!!!

Not yet, TN, just got her up on the rotisserie this past weekend and cleaning of the belly will commence this weekend. Hafta get all the major goop off the bottom before it goes to the media blaster's.

A few photos of the car up on the rotisserie. My back is really thankful for this thing. Got about half of the undercoating off today but had to cut the session short to go to a wedding...

I should have weighed the shell before and after stripping the junk off the bottom....Easily 4-5 pounds of undercoat in each wheelwell. I guess all that goo did it's job over the years, tho.

Hi Smack...yes, mother nature is relatively kind to sheetmetal out here...as compared to where I'm originally from (Long Island) with salt on the roads in the winter....The fact that this car had a real healthy serving of factory undercoating probably helped things a bit too.
I ran a separate post on the color selection and I think I have it narrowed down to Bronze color #1 with black stripes:

Hey Anthony yes the DSE tubs will go in after the car gets back from media blast. I have to decide if I am going to do the new DSE 4-link or not, because if I do that will affect how the upper shock xmember goes. Decisions, Decisions...

Well I guess It's about time for an update...I got the body back from media blast on Saturday and I was relieved to find that things weren’t too bad under all that paint.
The blaster did a great job. (Iron Circle Media Blasting in Tracy, CA)
I would never want to do media blast though, on a disassembled car that didn’t go up on a rotisserie. You would be hard pressed to get all the blast media out of it. Even with inverting the body, it still took me a good hour or so of vacuuming and blowing with compressed air and flipping it over and back, to get all the media out of there. It just kept coming out of every little recess in the body.
Both doors have their share of dings, and there is a dent in the sail panel on the passenger’s side quarter that someone filled with bondo, rather than spend any time at all working w/hammer and dolly, so that won’t be too bad to fix.
I shot it with Variprime etching primer to keep it from rusting before I start the bodywork in earnest.

Hi Steve-
The color is going to be (Ahem...sorry) a copper, (it's more of an orangey-copper, really!) called Molten Bronze (Hot Hues by DuPont).
There will be either a D90 style (hockeystick) side stripe, or Z28 stripes, I still haven't decided which, in a very dark (almost looks black) gunmetal gray.
awr68
11-22-2005, 11:37 PM
Looks good Rob...you just passed me up!!! I'm a big fan of the D90 stripe on the 69 camaros...it just looks right, especially when done in a not typical color like you have planned...I say go for it!!

11-22-2005, 11:55 PM
Thanks Anthony, it looks like we are both at about the same stage...I'm glad that I was able to get some etching primer on the car right away... didn't want to leave it bare for any length of time since the rainy season will surely get into full swing here pretty soon...but you know all about that up in your neck of the woods!
