I've neglected to post any pictures of the '67's interior - the foundation of which is Marquez Design's updated dash and door panels - so I thought I would snap some pictures before I started pulling it apart to finish up the fire system and wiring.

The new Marquez Design dash is awesome! As you can see it is a complete replacement and goes all the way to the windshield. Instruments are courtesy of the Racepak IQ3 logging dash with autometer fuel pressure and level gauges.

The quick release hub makes life a bunch easier getting in and out and is especially handy when you have to work under the dash. The column is a trick custom Ididit shorty that is a direct bolt in replacement for the stock dash.

http://www.onelapcamaro.com/build/interior/interior%203.JPG

The center console is out of a '71 Camaro that we uphostered to match the dash. The double din head unit isn't in place yet but a Kenwood piece with GPS navigation is coming soon. Shifter is a Pro-5.0 from American Touring Specialties and the bezel is something that we fabbed up in the shop. The window switches will be out soon and and ISIS In-Touch unit will be fit and will house all of the cars switches.

AC controls and vents are from Vintage Air. The billet handle on the drivers kick panel is the remote hood release.

http://www.onelapcamaro.com/build/interior/interior%205.JPG

Seats are from Cobra; the back seat seat area is pretty basic but houses the Fire Safe fire system as well as the RaceLogic traction control ECU.

Sorry that the pictures aren't the greatest but one of the issues with working on projects like this in the garage at home is that space and lighting can be limited at best.

In my opinion the Marquez Design interior really brings the car together and is one of the best investments that I made in the build. Not only is the styling awesome, it adds a bunch of much needed room and makes creates a fantastic driving enclosure! Hats off the Pascual and everyone at Marquez Design for another awesome product!

I'm working now on addressing some of the issues and potential issues that we identified at the Optima Invitational in the hopes that we can be at 100% for the begining of May.

Cheers!

james, looks awesome.
Is the column or the adapter to run a quick release a special part or something produced? is it a fine spline on the quick release hub or course so the wheel feels sloppy when not driving?

Jake,

The column is an Ididit GM replacement column with an adapter for a MOMO wheel. The FIA approved quick disconnect bolts in place of the wheel and essentially sandwiches between the column and wheel (it is available for other patterns IIRC). It doesn't use fine splines, instead it used larger pins that are machined essentially in two planes. Three pins parallel the plane of the column shaft and keep the wheel from rotating while the two disconnectable pins are perpandicular to the column.

So far I have not been able to feel any difference from a 'hard mounted' wheel so I am satisified at this point.

James, I forgot to say how awesome the interior looks. And if you feel like posting a bunch more pics, it sure wouldn't hurt my feelings. :D

That's some good carnography.

Looks Great Jin, why the fuel guage and oil if the IQ3 has it all? I'm looking into one for my car. Also what kind of touch screen did you use?

Thanks for the compliments guys. My hat is off to Pasqual and Marquez Design - they are definately on their game right now!

Link for the steering wheel quick release: SnapOff (http://www.tekniqauto.com/US/snapoff/snapoff.htm)

They offer a street and a race version which is SFI approved (for whatever that's worth). The street version offers some redundant protection but I am very happy with how effective the race version is. The only criticism that I have - and it's not the fault of the quick release hub - is that the hub is a slightly larger diameter than the hub on the colunm. It's only an eighth of an inch at the most and is due to the taper on the Ididit hub but it's there. I'll probably deal with that at some point in time in the future but I have enough more meaningful issues to deal with before I get there.

I'll shoot some more garage shots tomorrow. The interior is really one of my favorite parts of the car and there are lots of little details that are easy to miss if you don't know to look for them. Some funny stories there too - the A-pillar covers are were a project unto themselves (which is both funny and sad at the same time).

Cheers!

Very nice James. It is blending together nicely.

The steering column is one of the items that unless you start looking closely at it, you would think it's just a standard '67 column. It is far from that. It is very nicely integrated into the steering and support systems.

The autometers are fuel level and fuel pressure. Supposedly the Racepak can be adapted to read fuel level (with some work) but the autometer seemed to be the more dependable solution. The Racepak is more than capable of reading fuel pressure but (a) I wanted to balance the fuel level gauge on the dash and (b) I am using the IQ3 to monitor and log pressure on the fuel rail while the autometer will monitor pressure at the regulator which is at the back of the car. The head unit will probably be a Kenwood piece - most likely a DNX-8120. The Garmin GPS is a great feature.

James-

Followed this build all the way through. Simply awesome in every way. It was a pleasure seeing at SEMA. Marquez interior is awesome. I liked the dash so much I got one for my 55. I'm half way there on getting the dash installed in my 55.

That's interior looks superb! I was contemplating using racepak on my current build, but decided to stick with Autometer stuff for looks. I hope to get a chance to use it on my next build up.

Thanks Brent - the dash is a great piece; you'll be really happy with it I'm sure.

I'm working on some stuff now, if I can make it happen I'll have the car in your neck of the woods first week in May. Autobahn will be the first track event in the OLoA...

Sent you a PM David, appreciate the compliment. The event was great fun even though though I didn't have a chance to really show the cars potential.

A-pillar covers.

Late one night, about three weeks before SEMA... we had just got the 'glass headliner upholstered and the dash was roughed in when we started talking about a-pillar covers... which we both agreed that we needed.

We started with a pair or plastic '67 pieces that we thought we could cut down to make them fit - thin plastic, quick and easy. Problem was that the transition at the headliner was all wrong and the transition at the dash was designed around a 68/69 piece. Didn't work and there's an hour and a half gone...

We found a pair of '68 covers upstairs and started cutting these up...fit well at the dash but not at the headliner and the angle wasn't working well. Tried different angles, started working the edges, shaving that crappy foam plastic stuff... Took about two hours to decide that they weren't going to cut the mustard either. Back upstairs...

Ten minutes later Chris comes down with two enormous metal a-pillar covers - '71 Buick GS leftovers from a previous project. They are, simply put, huge... they look like they are two feet long and about as big around as your arm. It's about 10 when Chris starts playing with them... cuts them in three, gets the length close taking nearly five inches out, sections them, takes an inch and a half out there - and then another, starts molding the ends... I leave around midnight or one to drive home since I have to work in the morning. Chris is "just going to try a couple of things to see if he can make these work"...

When I got the the shop the next afternoon they were in primer and looked like they could have been factory pieces... just increadible work and something that almost nobody will ever appreciate except us.

If you look carefully you can probably make out the GPS antenna beneath the Camaro Performers decal. Mounted inside the car it is still easily able to pick up 8 satellites.

Thanks Tracy, I really appreciate the compliment.

I was definately out of my element on the interior and it was a challenge to say the least. The Marquez Design kit really fits well and looks right at home in the '67. There are some changes that need to be made (and are being made now) but for a first shot I think it's not bad.

Who sells the racepack?

There are quite a few dealers out there, however, I would recommend checking with Racepak first if browsing turns to buying. I have had a great experience dealing directly with RacePak. Roger Conlley is a great guy to deal with if you get stuck with something. He's a good friend and one of the most knowledgable guys that will actually talk to the common folk. He's helped me many times and it has always been spot on. I run there entire setup in the racecar (dash, egt's, driveshaft, shock travel, etc) and have used their video overlay setup as well. I'm also putting their new dash setup in my PT car (Apollo 13) but awaiting Marquez to release the new dash setup. PM me if I can help since they are only about 15 mins from my place.

R U sure you still don't want to sell that ebrake assembly seperate? LOL

Who sells the racepack?

Like Doug said, direct through Racepak is probably the easiest. I tried going through MSD distributors and dealers and although they are owned by MSD they are a completely seperate product line.

Some of the bigger racing distributors carry them as well - like hrpworld - but pricing is the same as going direct and they don't have the knowledge that you need when it comes to add ons, etc.
