this is an awesome car and i love all the fab work and attention to detail. Very nice build and i wouldn't change a thing i love everything about this car. I like the paint i painted my 69 camaro cyber gray metalic which is very close to the same color. i have always liked the 68-72 novas but this is by far the best built nova ive ever seen. looks great and keep up the good work!

If you look at page 28 it looks like they are Borla

Mufflers are like women, they come in all shapers and sizes. So in this case are they 12in or 16in XR-1'S? I think they are the 12in.

strtlegal
09-01-2010, 09:09 PM
LOl well with that Polishing treatment it does narrow it down some, plus to me it look like the Borla signa..If you look at the right muffler its a little clearer

Thanks, Originally I was going to do a scoop but decided not to. I didn't want to force anymore air into the engine compartment. I figured atleast having the cooler would be better than not.

Totally Wicked! Love everything about it. I noticed in the build you had a cowl hood. What made you change hoods? I really like the look of the plain hood. On the radiator support it looks to be smoothed on top.I know the factory has wrinkles in it, how did you go about smoothing that out? I can't wait to see it in person some day!

Thanks, I always had planned on running a flat hood. I prefer the subtleness of it. For the Rad support It was a repop so it didn't have most of the big wrinkles like the factory one. I just used a hammer and dolly to remove the remaining ones.

Thanks Guys, It was great meeting all of you. I had an absolute blast out there and finally being able to put some road miles on the car was good too. I don't really now how I did in standings or time wise. My main goal was to keep the car out of the gravel. Accomplished that so I was thrilled :D Here is a video clip from one of the laps.

They judged the cars at the Optima Challenge. It's like any other car show, it's normally the loud cars that get the points. Meaning, bright colors. The second place car was a 60's vette with a candy apple paint job. It was nice, but I don't think it deserved 2nd place.

HA! That's an awesome question and idea :). Billy's tired of me asking him.

I REALLY REALLY want one but DSE won't do it is my understanding. I talked to Dan about fab'ing one up for me but it was cost prohibitive to do a one-off. I even considered getting a DSE Camaro piece as a starting point. After looking at it more and talking to Billy it just looked to be too much work to reform that right side and the top since those 2 areas are a good bit different between the Camaro and Nova even though the dash structure is very similar.

I still hold out hope that someone can convince Kyle/Stacy to show us Nova guys some love...

I had a talk with Kyle at the open house, about this, and he told me that he is 99% sure that they will not do the nova dash. He did tell me he made a jig a few years back. I had cash in hand to pay for a dash, still said nope. I even asked if i could rent the jig.

I found a guy that makes a one,

Any updates on how's she's driving, what you're raced, any planned updates?

Your Nova was the single biggest influence on mine. Your stance, not to mention the fact that it's that low at regular ride height, on coilovers, was super inspirational, and is what made me slug thru all the hours of fab work to get mine at a lower ride height than normal with no rubbing and fully driveable, albeit not as extremely low as yours. Cheers!

Thanks, The Racepak is either a love it or hate it thing. It took me awhile to get used to looking at a digital readout, but now is seems as normal to me as any other gauge. I would definitely buy it again. It's lighter more compact and easier to wire than say your typical set of six analog gauges.

As usual things snowballed more than originally planned.lol
Here are a few updates:

While the engine is out at Thomson Automotive getting a refresh. We installed a hidden wiper system to give us more working room around the engine bay. I made new and improved removable engine bay bars and bracing. It greatly Increased torsional rigidity and slightly reduced weight over previous setup. While the suspension is coming out to get cleaned we are upgrading to JRi shocks this year. I will have more updates to follow as now its a thrash to get it back together.:willy:

Jeff-

Hi Jeff, The kit is made by RAINGEAR. The install and instructions are very straight forward and not bad at all. It's available as a 2 speed kit or a kit with the delay functions. I liked it so much I now carry and stock them. For a finished car they come with a block off plate that bolts on where the old wiper motor went.

Nice upgrades there Billy!

Billy- Your upgrades & color change on the car looks great!

On the Clutch reservoir to M/C is a great idea.. I have seen that on late model cars.. but on the road course & if you boil brake fluid it will also have a impact on your clutch.. I know that late model cars that are road raced change to remote reservoir.. Just my opinion..

With an effort to simplify things and lose unneeded weight where it was practical. We removed the clutch fluid reservoir and tapped it into the brake fluid reservoir since they both use the same fluid.

We run manual brakes on Blu Balz & all the testing we had done was with Autocrossing with Superlite 6 pistons which have a piston area of 4.04 (1.62/1.12/1.12 piston size) with pad volume of 4.09 on a 7/8 bore M/C worked great up until we started running the car on big road courses @ the first few events.. Karl didn’t feel confident with the brakes… So we had to make changes..

We upgraded to W6A calipers which have a piston area of 5.40 (1.75/1.38/1.38 piston size) with pad volume of 5.2 on a 1.00 bore M/C… The brakes worked great this past weekend @ Road America.. I thought we were gonna have to go back to a booster.. Manual brakes work great as long as you match caliper piston to bore on the M/C.. Pedal ratio is also important..

thats only if you match the master to piston size.

Wow, I've been through the whole thread and I'm amazed, serious skills in here.

I was looking for ideas for my 73 Nova project and let me tell you that this is a very nice way to go.

A couple of question, did you use bushing for sub frame?, front bars are directly attached to the firewall, or you put some reinforce plate behind it?, sub frame connectors are welded?. Sorry if all this questions are already answered but I watched just the pictures, some other day I'll review it again and read it ahaha.

Thanks a lot and excuse if I wrote or misspelled some word, my english is not perfect but I do my best :D
