Ive got a .040 over sbc 4 bolt main with maybe 10k miles on it that I'm getting a little tired of the performance of. I built the motor when I was 14 for when I turned 16 but actually got to drive it when I was 18 and I turn 21 in a week and its just not cutting it anymore. Its got 1.94 heads which I know suck, but there on the list of things to get replaced in time as I get the money (full time college student with part time job lol). The heads to have comp valve springs that are supposed to handle up to .525 lift, roller tip rockers, 9.39 compression ratio, comp magnum 270 cam that has .470" lift, hooker headers, weiand team g intake with a nos fogger set up with a 150 shot, edelbrock 650 cfm carb, and a stall converter that stalls between 2300 and 2600 rpm. I graduate in May and am just looking for a little more pep in the motor to hold me over until I graduate and can build the motor I really want. So my question is I would like to run a little bit bigger cam and carb set up so I was looking for some suggestions as to what yall would recomend. I was looking at the Comp magnum 280 cam part number 249-cl12-212-2which has .480" lift and the Comp thumper cam part number 249-12-601-4 that has .489" lift. which cam would yall recomend out of the 2 or would yall recomend another cam all together and which carb would yall also recomend? I do all the work myself and really dont have anyone else to ask these questions, so any input at all will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'd save for the heads and do it right. What gears do you have?

right now its a 3.36 posi but ive also got a set of 4.56's
I agree....save for a decent set of heads. The cam and carb you have can make decent power if they had some some good heads to work with them. Some AFR 180's would be sweet!

Yea I know I need a better set of heads, the only reason I was wanting to hold off on them was because I still haven't completely decided on the next motor I'm planning. It's going to be a 383 stroker either N/A around 500hp or I may try and experiment with a single turbo set up. I was just trying to avoid buying a set of heads that will work good on the motor I have now then when I start building, within the next year hopefully, having to buy a bigger set that will work with the new motor. I'm kinda flying solo on everything I do so any advice or pointers is appreciated.
OK...the Comp 280H is too much cam for a 9.3 to 1 350. Bleeds off to much comp. The Thumper.....they are poser cams. I would look at something like the XS268S solid flat. Should work really well with your motor/conveter. For a carb is would go with a Holley 650DP. As far as the gears.....sell both sets and go for some 3.73's. Good all around gear for street/strip. Also.....might wanna think about getting rid of the Team G intake and going with an RPM air gap. Should help your low/mid range torque a bunch. Still will work fine with up to a 150 shot of gas. So..here is the list...
XS268S...solid flat tappet
Holley 650DP
Performer RPM air gap
3.73 rear gear

Agree with the gears and camshaft. I'd still save for what you want. That's why I ask about gears. Anything you can change now that will roll over into your next build makes sense. You don't sound like you have many dollars to waste.

Yea money is a little tight right now since I do go to college full time and am only working part time due to the rediculous school schedule (18 hours that are scattered all day long), but I do start my co-op in May I hope and go to looking for a full time permanent job after that. So hopefully a new motor will come soon after that. Thanks for all the input.
