Morning,

Yesterday when Kenny Davis (www.kdhotrods.com ) was out Rock crawling he was ejected from the vehicle. As it rolled over it landed on him crushing his skull. He was life flighted to Tulsa where they put over 20 plates and more then 30 screws in his head. They had to remove some of his brain tissue that was exposed to prevent infection.

Prior to surgery he was conscious which is a good sign. We just have to hope that the swelling stops and doesn’t cause any damage.

As of this morning Angie said Kenny had a good night and he will be going in for another cat scan this morning with contrast to see what kind of damage there is.

They will also be meeting with the optometrist so they can evaluate the condition of his eye.

Kenny is going to have a long road for recover so please keep Kenny and his family in your prayers.

As I get updates I will post them in the first post so you can check back to see how he is doing.

12-07-08 Update ( TJ Bruning Auto )

A post from someone who was there when the accident happened -

"There was a group of us playing/warming up the rigs at Disney below the west dam and Kenny’s rig developed a vacuum leak. At that time he and another buddy jumped in someone else’s buggy (Kenny Driving) to run to napa to get a part. They were going at very slow speed and not crawling in the sense of the word. At the time of the roll we were down in the bottom by the rock garden and did not see it happen, I don’t think anyone did. I am sure Kenny did not think he needed his belt as he was in a very well built rig and just going from a to b. It took about 20 min for the local ambulance to arrive and another 30 of so for life flight.

All things considered the doctors have been optimistic from the beginning and he was talking right up until the time he went to the OR. Actually he yelled, in true KD fashion, that he was going to be fine and not to worry.

12-07-08 Update

Just in case you haven't seen Blake's post, we're sending shop shirts or whatever else, cards, magazines, candy, flowers, etc. to the hospital since he's going to be there at least 3 weeks.

11-07-08 Update ( Jason R )
Just talked to Travis right now and the very latest catscans revealed that he's healing really well and the fluid is draining, swelling is going down, no bleeding and the doctors are truly surprised and optimistic at how good the scans look and say he'll be out of the ICU this week. Not even close to out of the hospital but out of the ICU which is a big step, so keep the love coming!

12-08-08 Update ( Travis )
Good morning,
First of all I would like to say that Angie is overwhelmed at the support she is gotten and didnt really have words when I told her about the fund that had been set up. All she could say was "trav thats great, thats really great". It has been an emotional roller coaster for all of us that are close to him. I cant give enough thanks to all of you both the guys that know him on a personal level and those of you that have never met him, its just awesome the support we are getting.

As far as the insurance he does have insurance I called the dealership where his employed full time and should have some info back her in a little while. But as of right now keep him in your prayers and thoughts. He is a tuff as they come. He was asking me yesterday when he could go back to work and how much longer he had to be there.
I will try to update everyone as much as I can.

I know this hasnt been touched on but his crawler had broken down so him and another good friend of mine jumped in another guys crawler....a very nice vey capable pro built rig. They were just going to run back to the truck they were around 100yds from the dirt road that would have taken them right back to the truck. There was a 5ft ledge that had to be crossed to get down to the road. We arent sure what happened but this is where the crawler rolled..... Kenny has always been very safety concious when they go crawling this was just one of those freak accidents. It would be like going to the race track and getting hit in the pits. Truely just a freak accident

For those that dont have paypal you can send a money order to my address or any other magazines, etc. He is in room 715 right now but will be moving out in a couple days if all stay well. I will update that as I know.

12-09-08 Update 2:25pm sick65
Just got a text from Angie...Doc said everything looks great and they are moving Kenny out of ICU. No word on the new room number, but he has improved enough to be moved to a regular room.:D[/QUOTE]

12-10-08 Update 3:00pm

Okay, I just got off the phone with Travis and we are all in shock.

Kenny is going to have another Scan in the morning and if it's good then he may get to go home by the weekend. He will still have to go back weekly for check ups but the news just keeps getting better every day.

So for everyone that was going to be sending him something send it to Travis and he will deliver it to him.

just put thuis up on PT

I just got off the phone with Travis.

Kenny had just woken up and started talking... one of the first things he asked was how the crawler he turned over was? asked for his daughter... and was just carrying on [a conversation] as normal. that's great news!

The doctors biggest concerns associated with the head injury are, additional swelling of the brain and infection.
They had to rebuild one of his eye sockets and he isn't able to open that eye at this time. The doctors felt he would have his vision in that eye.

He was also able to move all his LIMBS!

They are doing another cat scan later today I will keep you informed.

I went back through the archives and found our '07 radio and video interviews with him while the KDHR team was building the ZL1 Camaro for SEMA... for those who have never met the man, you can get a feel for his genuine enthusiasm and talent in these stories. We pray for a speedy and full recovery.

Kenny has only been into crawling for a short time, but has already brought a lot to the sport. He is very proud of the Campbell buggy he rebuilt and has done some great work on all of our rigs. He is one of those guys that doesn’t know a stranger and gets along with everyone, better be able to take a joke!! He is one of a kind!!

I am sure Kenny would tell us all to buckle in no matter what so let’s try to keep the vibe positive in this thread. I will be going to Tulsa every chance I get till he comes home so I will take all your prayers and well washings to Kenny and his family.

On their behalf thank you for the support."

Kelle and I were pondering what can be done to help the situation from the outside. I googled the area around the hospital and found a bunch of restaurants and a shopping center down the street. Kenny's getting taken care of in the hospital, but it's also going to be hard on the family and visitors while he's there. Angie is able to stay on-site, but they do live well over an hour away from the hospital.

So after talking to Travis about it, we came up with a plan to use PayPal to help with daily expenses, gas, meals, magazines for Kenny... anything they need.

To contribute, go to PayPal and send any amount you'd like to Travis' email address:

[email protected]

He'll make sure the Davis family gets the donations.

Travis also said Kenny is already bored, and Kenny said "my head hurts!" He's also potentially got a broken big toe, but the rest has all been posted here.

Hopefully Kenny's head heals fast and he's able to get home for the holidays.

I haven't been on line since this thread started, but Whoa! This is tough to read! I met him in Columbus and saw him on the Flowmaster commercial that he filmed down there just this morning! Now tonight I read this...Crazy. He is a super nice guy and it looks like he's getting through it all pretty well but I will definitely be keeping him in my prayers as he recovers. Get well soon brother! Sounds like you'll be reading this sooner than later.

First of all...I would like to say thanks to all of those that have sent their thoughts and prayers to Kenny and his family. He has been a close friend of mine for many years and a just love the guy like a brother.

I had went to the hospital yesterday after I got the news, but wasn't able to see him. Went back again today and got in around mid-afternoon. No mistake, he is banged-up pretty bad.

I didn't get to stay long, as the pain meds were taking affect and he was falling asleep. We did get to speak briefly and that meant a lot to me.

As stated before, he is not out of the woods yet, but is progressing very well. Would be great if he could be at home with the family for Christmas.

For anyone coming in from out of town, let me know if I can help accommodate in any way. I'm an hour and half from Tulsa, but I will do what I can to try and help out. You can reach me at 479-586-0191 or [email protected].

Kenny, our hearts and prayers are with you in this terrible time, sounds like you are pulling through but you have a long road in front of you. I just went through this with my brother as he was hit in the head with a gun and it almost killed him, he had emergency surgery to stop the bleeding and a few plates and screws in his head. He has made a full recovery with lots of PT so it’s good news for you with the way people saying you’re moving and talking. We wish you the very best and a speedy recovery. I know cars are your life but you got to relax and think about you and your family right now the cars will be here when you get better.

glad to hear he is doing well!

It is always the little things or unsuspected things that get ya, a friend in the Porsche 914 world (I have a tube chassis 914 with 525HP SBC) had jacked his car up in the air and used a jackstand to hold it up - one of the mondo ones to top it off. The jackstand failed, dropped the car and crushed his head between the shop floor and the rocker of the car (these cars are low BTW)! His wife heard the screaming and knew enough to get the jack and jack the car up off of him. He too survived (had some dental issues from it) and it is amazing what the body can take, but just goes as a reminder to take extra care even in the most mundane or seemingly safe of situations. I use 2 jackstands and leave the jack in place if there is room now every time I work on the car for example.

sorry for the slight hijack but wanted to throw that info out there as historically I have been very trusting of a single jackstand. Again, glad to hear he is pulling through.

Kenny is going to have another Scan in the morning and if it's good then he may get to go home by the weekend. He will still have to go back weekly for check ups but the news just keeps getting better every day.

Hey guys, Sorry its been a busy week. Kenny is doing great all things considered. having trouble sleeping in some pain that sort of thing. Got the stitches and staples out monday. There never was a final count on stitches somewhere around 100 before we lost count. He has been getting gifts on daily basis and is in blown away by what has been said and done by the members here and on other boards. Im going to print the boards again tomorrow and add them to kennys book I have going. He watching lots of movies, tv, rumor is he is taking up video games....haha. huge thanks to all of you for the prayers and gifts:bow:

jsut a funny side note
killer customs-sent a shirt that had hand scribled human crash test dummy written in the bottom of there logo(we all thought that was hilarious)

Kenny good to see you back but take it slow man, my brother just went through this as well and cant look at the computer either it hurts his head and when he thinks to much it hurts and I am sure you are going through this already. Your work is important but not as important as your life and family so take it easy and let it come back to you when you are ready. Happy New Year to you man and the luck is on your side so have a great year.
