Scaryguy both look good but I'm partial to solid body with stripes.

Personally I would go with all black w/ the red stripes as shown in the last pic. Good luck with the paint...I know you are really excited!!

I like the black with red stripes although i would get another 2 quarts of black if your gonna go that route. I always like to have 6 qts of base when doing a complete paint job. I would rather have extra then run out. anyways looking awesome it looks laser straight.

im not to worried about coverage with the black spies covers very well and its a black sealer plus the engine compartment is not body color its already done in semi flat so no reason to paint it black again.

Agree it's nice to have some extra material but Gadzooks 6 qts of base (1.5 gallons) for an early mustang?
Do you shoot with a siphon gun?

Just tryin to make a suggestion if he not painting the engine compartment or underside of hood and trunk 1 gallon should be enough I just like to always have a little extra just in case thats all. I used 2 gallons of base when i painted a 65 fastback recently granted it was a charcoal pearl but still i like to put 4 wet coats of base on even with a solid color and 4-6 wet coats of clear. gives it a deep shine just a personal preference.

What does the Laser Red base look like? I know that the factory Ford Laser Red is a tri-coat. not sure what it would look like without all 3 steps. But if it is a bright red; then it would look great striped over the black.

um no its not unless you use dupont lazer red and that tends to fade
in spies its a base coat clear coat.

OK, does it match the factory color fairly well. I have a friend that is needing his car redone and is having hell finding a shop to do it since the factory color is tri-coat. he is trying to avoid doing the doorjambs and engine compartment if possible.
I still think the black with laser red stripes would be killer. Try rendering with black wheel and a laser red lip.
