I have a 67 Camaro that I do not want to mini tub, and was wanting to know if I can fit a 19 or 20X10 wheel in the rear without doing this. I am also going to put a 4 link with a 9 inch Ford in it and was wanting to know how much I can shorten the rear end to get the fatest lip on the wheels.

From my experience you can fit a 10" wide wheel in the back. A 275mm tire is the safest wide tire to run, but you can also fit a 285 with some fender rolling and trimming.

Probably a dumb question, but this would also be the widest for a 67 firebird? Also, I've been looking at some pics with the 275 rears, and they almost look like they stick out a little, is this how it is with this size? Or was the wrong backspacing used?
Thanks

It sounds like the wrong offset/backspacing. We have a '67 and '69 Camaro with 10" wide wheels with 285mm tires in the rear and they don't stick out. We have done dozens of these fitments with no issues. A 275 is the perfect no issue size for stock cars with the correct offset/backspaced rear wheels. The fitment should be the same for a Firebird, since they are literally the same car.

Do you know what the backspacing was on those wheels

18". 19". 20" is not the question, overall tire height and section width is all that matters. You need to stay with a tire package that is 25.5" to 27". Probably 27" on a 20" rim. If you want to tuck the wheel / tire package on a 67 / 68, your going to be pushing it with 10s. 9.5s pull the section width in a teenie and can make quite a difference. They say each 1/2" of rim is worth 3/10ths" of section, but at the 9.5" to 10.0" size on a 275, it is really close to a 1/2" of section for a 1/2" of wheel With 285s your really looking for trouble and alsmost certainly have to use 9.5 wheels

No, The width of the rear really has nothing to do with how much tire you can get in there. you can only shove so much in the wheel well. The width of the rear really only changes how much lip you get on the wheel.
Just for example, say you need a 6" backspace on a stock width rear, and you end up with a 3" lip on a 10" wheels. If you narrow the rear 1 inch PER SIDE, you could reduce the backspace 1" and pick up 1" of outer lip for a 4" lip.
Or, say you mini tub and do not narrow the rear, you need a 8" back space and have a 3" outer lip. But if you narrow the rear 4 inches you can do a 6" backspace and get a deeper 5" outer lip

The only reason that I am asking about the rearend is to get a fatter lip not to fit them under the car. The only reason that I want 10 instead of 9.5 is because nobody makes 9.5 that have a flat lip. I would be fine with them if it wasnt for that.

Is the general concensus a 20x10 with a 275 will fit athe rear of a 67-68 Camaro? Are you relocating springs to accomplish thus?

It'll fit on a stocker, but it won't be able to sit low. No way that will tuck under the wheel house. Just depends on what's more important to you.

My plan is to drop it 2" with a Hotchkis TVS kit. Would a 20x8.5 be better or should I just stick with 18" all around?

18" all around is the way to go. 20" is way to big and ends up goofy looking IMHO.

I know your looking at a bigger wheel but I had 17x11 with a 315/40/17 on the back of mine, 5.5 back spacing and all i did was roll the outer lip a little and they never rubbed. I have a few pics of the car on the track and you can see the wheel going into the wheel well. I'm still running springs in the rear.

The rear should be 19" and front is 18". I have 18" all the way around on my 67 Camaro, but the 19" on Mayhem seems to fill the wheelwell better.

the most perfect fit would have been 4 13/16 BS front and 5 7/8 BS rear
Big sway bars and perfect bump stops keep you from worrying about rub.
285/40/18 has the perfect height and width for a 67 F body.

Well done, and this fitment shows that there is more than one way to skin a cat.
Your example illustrates that the key to getting the proper look is how the tire/wheel fits the wheel opening, not necessarily how low the car is. The 285 is nominally about 27 inches tall. The larger diameter lets you fill the wheelwell without having to run so low. Anyone looking to duplicate could go as small as a 9.5 inch rim width and still be inside the manufacturers recommendations. The bumpstop is an important part, because that tire/wheel isn't going to tuck inside the wheelwell.
