I posted a project (Il Vagabondo) a while back and I thought I'd share some images of a second project that I'm really excited about as well,,,,,,Project "Keylime Twist" is a 1970 Formula 400 Firebird Pro-Touring build. We just painted the car tonight and look forward to assembling it for spring 09 all things equal....

The car will feature:

- One off custom made 17" stylized rims that are an interpretation of an updated Pontiac 1971 honeycomb rim (see attached edited image,,,sorry self taught newbie in photo shop).

-A modified 400 Stroker Pontiac motor

-TKO 600 5 speed

-Wildwood brakes

-QA 1 coilovers

-modified suspension components

-Custom white & Black tuxedo deluxe interior

Thanks gang,,,,,I'm really pumped about the car and look forward to posting it's progress when I return in the middle of next month to get back at it....

The Green is a stock 70 Firebird color Keylime green,,, just has a little better body prep & clear than factory paint LOL.... all the fenders and nose will need to be aligned again and the paint will receive an aggressive cut and polish after it cures....

I'd like to attempt to have both this project, and my other project (72RS) ready for the spring .....I'd like to do some touring this summer if possible (have a father with relatively advanced Alzheimer).....That considered I've bought a 48' 5th wheel trailer to send the cars to events ahead of me with a friend/s and will fly if necessary.

That's one of the ugliest colors I've ever seen!!

Just kidding. Obviously I like the color too. I wonder if our colors are the same? Mine is 71 Olds lime green paint code 43. Yours looks pretty close.

Thanks Syborg tt I'm pretty pumped about it too...

71 OLDS thanks they call the GM colors different names for the different divisions, but it is a code 43 paint and I know Chevy calls it Citrus Green as an example....I don't know the official name Old's placed on the paint but I'm pretty sure it's identical too...

Thanks 98Nova, the wheels are being custom designed and built by a company specifically for me.....I hope to have the prototype wheels in approximately a month and will decide on production runs after that....

Thanks Kendall Burleson for the vote of confidence...

I'll be updating things in the next week or so and appreciate the kind comments and well wishes on the project....

Thanks

Just a little update....Things have been going pretty well on the car and we're in the re-assembly stage however have run into a few obstacles along the way that tend to so things down.

The air conditioning system chosen for the car is one of the hold ups as both "Classic Air" and "Vintage air" do not have interfaces with "factory air system controller" (just their own controls and I want factory controls/sliders in my dash)....So we're working on a possible solution with "Classic Air's" rep up here in Toronto and hopefully things will work out soon. I'm also as a result of this back stopping the situation with the idea of at least putting power windows in the build (all be it that they didn't come in the car in 1970)...

I'm looking at the "Electric Life" product for a windows, door locks, and trunk solution and was wondering if any board members have had any experience with their product???? are they good,,, Bad,,, and how is the quality of their product from an end users stand point????

The motor in the build has also been changed out to a 455 with some interesting internals and Edelbrock aluminum heads,,,it should be a super reliable pump gas street motor that makes something north of 500hp...Nothing to fancy, just a lot of fun in front of the new TKO 600.

Anyways, I hope you like what you see and look forward to feedback....

P.S. can a moderator move this thread and my other car thread (Project Vagabondo) over to "project updates" section as this isn't new anymore and I don't know how to move from one forum to the other.....Thanks in advance.

Looking good. Keep us updated please.
I'm not positive, but I think Anthony's car, Karma, is using that ELECTRIC LIFE kit?

That CNC work is BA you know when you are done you should make your stand out of plexi and have them machine another one like that and put it behind the plexi I think that would be sweet. just my .02:hail:

Thanks guys.....well after a few stumbles and tripping we have the first front rim cut..... The design has resulted in a ton of CNC time to produce the rim, but I'm very excited with the results to this point.

I have been running a thread over at the "PY" forum and it would appear that there is a strong interest for the rims should I decide to produce them in a limited run... So far the rim bands (inner and outer) are a problem for me to source and I thought I'd ask the board members here if there is a U.S.A. source for outer and inner rim bands???

Gorgeous car and rims. Not a huge fan of honeycombs since my car cam with the snowflakes but I like those machined ones. Good luck finding hoops for the rims.

Thanks Trey I appreciate the compliment, btw the rim isn't designed for trim ring in this interpretation of the Honeycomb. I prefer an aluminum lip on the mag itself as per how we've proceed to construct this set.
