Been offered a 68 camaro 10 bolt rearend. Been told its a nonposi with 3.08 gears? My questions are, were 8.2 AND 8.5 offered that year?
I know that Lou Santiago put a built 8.2 under project old blue hair on muscle car tv. Do you guys think this is worth $200?????

Alex,

If the axle is from a 68 Camaro, it is an 8.2" assembly. They didn't make the 8.5" early enough to put into a first gen Camaro, but they did install them under later model Novas (somewhere between 70-75), and it is a bolt-in swap between the two cars. I know Lou built one for Old Blue Hair, but an 8.2" is more expensive to build than an 8.5" and will never be as strong.

If you are looking for an 8.5" that will fit a Camaro, shoot me a PM or email. I have one from a '72 Nova I don't have any use for.

I dont think they are worth 50$ I wouldnt spend the money to build one. Find a 72-78 nova- 75-78 must be 8 cyl as the 6 cyl cars used 7.5" posi's and gears are readily available . I'd be interested in a pair of axles(if good and not scored) and backing plates if you would consider parting it out

i guess i will just keep looking then. thanks for the help guys!

if it is not to much trouble could someone maybe post a list or link to somewhere i could find a list of cars that had 12 bolts or 8.5 10 bolts so that when i go to the junkyard i know what cars to look under

I can build you a 8.5" if your interested. 12 bolts were under novas till 72, camaro's till 71, chevelles to 72. 8.5 were under almost all GM 71 and later - it was the new H/D rear end are you wanting to put it in the 55? the 72-78 novas had a 8.5 that would be the right width - just would need to have perches moved

That price seems high. I have an 8.2 out of a Chevelle that I can't give away, I now have to deliver it to get it out.

What kind of car do you plan using it in? Power?
