Why do we have so many registered users whit ZERO Posts?

Now I know I am not one to post allot, but have been here ever since the very begging at the old board. I was just checking out the member list and buy just glancing at the pages I would say probably at least half the registered users here have no post. I look at it like this I only say something when I know what I am talking about. I don’t know that much so I don’t say that much, but I find it hard to believe that all these registered uses out there have nothing good to say or any helpful input. If you just register to see our pictures shame on you. If you have time to read what we have problems with or accomplished you should find the time to respond to calls for help or input. I am not looking for ever one to put up a smiley at ever post but I believe there is a lot of knowledge people out there just sitting on there hands. I like to learn from some other peoples experiences. Too the few people that can always be counted on for a response thank you. I think its time for some of our other people to start contributing too.

i find that i have a lot of those too on my site as well, i couldnt answer that question for you. Many reasons for people not posting, the most common response is "i never got an email to confirm my account" which usually means their spam blocker is up WAAYYY too high or they typed in the wrong email address... 2nd most common answer is "i forgot my password"

Hope this helps, i've been dealing with this issue for nearly 6 years!

The post counts seem to go in cycles - some days are busy and some are slow. We get A LOT of traffic here but the Forums don't always show that.

Getting to your question, I believe you guys are right, they register to view the attachments. That's fine, it's all part of it.

There are always more lurkers than posters on any site.. :yes:

Eventually they loosen up and start posting and then more lurkers take thier place.. ls1tech.com has over 10,000 members but only a few thousand activly post.. the rest just read and try to learn.

I think you're right, people log in to look at the pics & to learn from others, thats how I started. I only posted on a subject that I specilaise in, ie body/paint. Saw a posting on Jodys car with problems & I knew the answer to his problems & thought I could help.I then got drawn into a looooooong series of posts about paint probs. I then felt "comfortable" talking with you guys. :)

How did you start posting?

So, how many times would you say you check guys out the site for updated posts.? I guess I probably look in about 6-7 times a day, is that sad?? :willy:

I've been lurking on Pro-Touring since the beginning. Maybe 1999 or 2000? I can't remember when exactly. I didn't have a computer then, so I'd go to the local Kinkos and pay 20 cents a minute to sit on one of their computers and check the site for any updates. I can't remember when I first discovered the forums. I think my first motivation was not the pictures, but the eternal newbie back-spacing question, " What's the widest tire and rim combo I can fit on back of my camaro without mini-tubbing?" Of course, I never had to ask that question because there were others before me who had. That brings me to one of the reasons why people don't post. If you spend time on the forums, you will inevitably find that someone has asked the same question or figured out a problem that you might have.

Well, some of us don't know jack sh!& about cars and reading the forums is like watching a pro-touring encyclopedia unfold before our eyes. What help could I possibly offer? I don't even own a car at this point. Also, there are some great and talented minds on these boards. Chicane, Jody, Scott, Pozzi, Steve (both of them),even that trouble-maker Yody has some good insight from time to time.

Maybe another reason people don't post is that it has become a little clique-like. That's fine by me, but maybe some people are a little intimidated. Not everyone can make it to the Pro-touring dinner :) (That smiley was for you Brian) The etiquette on these boards has changed since the beginning. This doesn't apply to Lateral-g, but P-T has changed. Chalk that up to growth.

I don't mind that not everyone posts. I like it that I can check in and get info, ideas, and inspiriation from some very knowledgable people. I don't want to see these forums turn into a cardomain-like site where people just join to show off their ride, post pics, and then are never heard from again. What you are seeing in the forums is evolution. Darwinism. Those with the knowledge, passion, generosity, and commitment are the ones who are consistent posters.

Now, someday when I get my life on track and my business starts to pay off, maybe then I'll buy a car and start posting. Until then, I'll keep track of all the info, mis-steps and innovations that occur on a daily basis on these boards and continue lurking.

Yes, very well put, John, and I agree about the 'clique' type thinking. There's a lot of people that think the car has to be all about hardcore road racing and some people just want a nice cruiser. Personally, I enjoy it all, and ultimately, it's about enjoying the "hobby". What I like best is fabrication - be it pro-street or pro-touring or what have you. I like looking at what other people are doing or have done and draw inspiration and ideas from that.

I agree, I too, use the site as an encyclopedia of knowledge. I have a car (well, some people consider it a car), it was unfortunately made in the forgettable days of the late eighties to early nineties. It was made to handle (well, a couple of updates are in order), stop, but needs help on the go side. There are posters and sponges. I am a sponge. I have just the right amount of knowledge to know not to give advice! I don’t specialize in anything, but between this board and the pt.com board I learn something every day. I want to thank the regular peeps, without them, us sponges would be out in our garage banging our heads against the wall and kicking the dog when we just can’t figure something out. Or worse, hurt because we did something unsafe. If I see some one out in a pt.com or lat-g shirt on, you can bet the first round of beers are on me.

I don’t want to make any one up set I just was trying to get some of the people who don’t ever say any thing to step up and contribute when they can. I am about 500 hundred miles away from my car right know so I am spending a little more time than usual on the computer checking out the regular forums that I always visit. I know there are lot more cool projects going on out there but for some reason people are holding back. Maybe they are shy or don’t want the attention. Personally I am just looking for some more topics to be discussed. I said it be for I don’t post much my average is .10 post per day. It would be awesome if more people spoke up if everyone posted who was registered you probably wouldn’t ever be able to read all the post and still take care of everything else we need to.

I would like to start by saying the this is one of the best sites I have seen and I enjoy the forums, as well as the photos. My project is currently waiting its turn at Race-Rodz for chassis work. Its a 427 Cobra kit, with Viper suspension and brakes.

Chris has talked some "sense" into me to use a 4.6 Cobra engine instead of the "antique" 460 and top-loader that I currently have. By seeing the trends that others have taken, it makes it easier to invest my kids inheritance where it will be the most fun.

If anyone has any extra $$$$$$ they aren't using, please contact Race-Rodz and I'm sure he can get my project rolling, I know, right after his are finished.
