I'm excited.

The Camaro is going to the bodyshop around December. It's getting a coat of silver paint, a racing stripe and this new hood from Anvil.

It's gunna look killer.

Gotta say that I was totally impressed with the hood and service from Anvil.

Nice! That hood is going to look killer. Are you planning on painting the hood, maybe leaving some of it exposed as stripes?

Yeah, I'm hoping that once we clear the hood we don't get a reaction between the clear on the hood and the clear we spray on the car.

I've seen clear do weird thing when you mix different types.

Wow, that hood looks AWESOME!!

I think exposed stripes of some sort would look great!

I wish they made one for my Road Runner, lol

Thanks,

I know that there are many 1978 to 81 second gen Camaros out there so I'm always trying to keep it looking original.

At least till I get my 70':unibrow:

Wasn't sure at first about the bulge in the hood but it totally grew on me, can't wait to see it with paint!:D

Well here it begins: PROJECT QUIKSILVER

Yeah I know there's another car out there with the same name, I'll just be the Canuck version :D

We got the car into the shop and started dismantling it, and already found a surprise. The previous owner had removed the rear fin (center and sides) to prime the car then reattached them leaving bare primer beneath the fin. We have blisters to repair on the lower fenders, filling the licence plate anchor holes and replacing the rear lower bumper valance.

Going to repaint the car with 02 Firehawk bright silver metallic.

We're taping off the racing stripe, I was nervous about painting over the carbon fiber hood.

Looking real nice! Did you seal the entire car before paint for consistency under the silver base? It looks like you just shot the hood but the body was a grey primer? Do you just paint carbon? Just wanting to learn. When does the clear go on? Nice progress!!

The paint and body was really good on the car(had to replace the lower fenders because of a bad repair) so we just sanded and spot primed the car before paint. The hood was totally scotch padded for paint and final clear coat to aid in wet sanding the stripes to get a smooth finish.

Here we layed a metallic black in the center of the racing stripe to mimick the center of the stripe that left the carbon fiber exposed on the hood, probably getting the CF trunk lid this fall.

Now I need a lower grill for the car, after I took it out of the grill opening to take a pic of the car it fell apart in my hands:(

Beautiful Camaro. Who makes the hood? It looks like a fine quality piece.

Thanks, I love the way the hood turned out.

I can't wait for the question "Is that paint?" Yup, bought it at Canandian Tire! Right next to the checkered paint.

Do you have to run hood pins? Do they have a front latch provision? Its just that it looks so clean without them. Please dont take offence, just my opinion. The paint came out beautiful! Did you have to use any special clear? I know that you said earlier that you were worried about the clear coat on the carbon fiber and the clear you were going to shoot on the car might react. Obviously it didnt , it looks great.

Yeah, it does and I am using the hood latch. The hood looks raised in the corners, not saying it's the hood. My bodyman told me that the fenders had been removed and not aligned perfectly.

We used an ordinary automotive clear. Although the hood came with a uv resistant clear we recleard so I could wet sand the stripes. I have heard of Yellowin and needing buffing or wet sanding but the Camaro will be garage stored.:woot:

Thanks to the guys at Hoodpins.com great product and quality!
I took some quick shots to post for now, I'm going to take some better quality ones this week!

And yeah it's raining all weekend. I don't mind the rain, I just know no one will be out.:(

You deserve the compliments. I showed the scuff plates to a machinist friend who offered to make for me, when I showed yours to him he said "yeah, those would have been a pain in the a$$ to make."  :woot:

It was my first project with Ron and it was just the beginning. We've actually done a bunch of little projects together. As long as I can come up with more idea's I am certain Ron can make them happen.
