It does need full restoration.. very minor rust in a couple of spots and needs new front floor pans (mostly passenger side).. very solid great running car with a 289 (alum intake, 4 barrel, 3 speed automatic)
Now the question is should I flip it and make a grand or two or keep if for the next PHR project car? If I sold it I would find a car in a bit rougher shape appearance wise..
Thoughts?

did the coupe have to be a driver?.... if not i could hook ya up with a decent roller...disk brakes, 8", had an alum head 351W... a buddy bought it out of the local nickel paper for 2500 cash... just for the engine.... wants to off the shell(last time i talked to him anyway)
flip the car for a couple grand profit... and pick up this shell...be into it.... cheap or ahead... lemme know i can talk to him and get ya pics if ya want.

Nice thing about being a driver is that I can do before hand testing.. it doesn't have to be a good driver but you get the idea.
A car with el cheap steel rims, minimal rust and a sorta running 289 or I6 would be perfect.. oh and the interior that looks like badgers lived in it..
I would be interested in seeing pics of the car you mentioned though.. ya never know if the rest of the car is in good shape..

Wow, there's a guy on my corner that has a red one with the 6 cyl. I think it is not running as of late because he has started weed eating around it. Memphis is a long way from Cali but I can ask him. I would probably find a beater to do the PHR treatment on. The car you bought just "looks" to good. But this could be just coverup cosmetics.

Keep in mind that pictures hide a thousand sins.. the car is clean but def needs to be stripped and restored.. most suspension/steering parts are worn and it it afflicted with small dents (dings) and tiny areas of rust.. and it needs a passengers side floor. But it does have curb appeal.. it is funny how many  i get just cruising around in it.. lol
I think I will put it up and see what happens.. worst case is that it doesn't sell and I rip it apart for the project.. best case is I make a few grand..
win/win.. Time to hit Craigs List :D

You're such a transaction junkie. That looks like a nice car. And we want to see more baseline data in PHR. Keep it! Brian Cichocki's bronze/black coupe turned out awesome. You can build one just as nice. Plus the readers need to know that they can still find a nice muscle car for not a lot of coin.
I know it's your car and you can do what you want--but if you're factoring your readers into the equation, this car will make a great logical progression after g/28--only with true 60's muscle.

The stang is badass  The cool part about this whole project is your building something an average guy can do. I think you will be the most famous tech editor in the world!!!!! :unibrow:

That is why I want a driver and not a gutted shell but I can find a better "project car" than this .. for example:
http://adcache.collectorcartraderonline.com/10/7/7/80620977.htm
Sure it is ugly but if solid the perfect car.. and there WILL be a 67/68 Stang coupe done regardless if I sell this one and do the next.
The 68 is officially the next project car but it will be a shorter series and not budget at all, want to touch on some of the nice stuff like the LS2, C5 front sub and such.. that will give me time to line up my ducks for the Mustang project which will be more like g-28 in that it will go from a POS to a good handling and fun car on a moderate budget -- $20k sound reasonable again?.. not counting paint/body..
I agree on the low buck approach and that is why a fastback does not make any sense.. it is also why I would like to find as good and inexpensive a car as possible. If I flip this car I might even include that in the story like a "property ladder".. lol.
I found a cool possible motor as well.. it is a 302 stroked out to 347 and it makes 405hp and 440tq.. it also revs to 6800. Weighs less than a Windsor and is only $5500 complete from carb to pan. I have to get all the specs and curves but it seems like a good open track day motor.

sorry... i should have kept my mouth shut and check to see if he still had the car first.... because its long gone. oh well.... that looks like a great starting point anyway.
btw... the 347 sounds like a pretty good deal....IF its got good parts in it... good heads... 6800 redline makes me assume its a late hyd roller block... great for a driver/weekend thrasher.
im sure you have checked out stangnet.com allready... tons of info over there.

Here is the propaganda on the motor..
Rancho Cordova, CA (August 18, 2005)-Smeding Performance introduces the Ford GT 347 Extreme. This reliable, low-maintenance stroker crate engine produces 405 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 420 lb-ft of torque at 4500 rpm. With the torque only a stroker can produce, it's easy to feel the difference between the Smeding GT 347 Extreme and a 302.
This Smeding engine is not a rebuild. It features a brand-new Ford Sportsman block and all-new top-quality components from top to bottom.
The Smeding Ford GT 347 Extreme boasts such premium parts as full roller valve gear, specially modified Edelbrock cylinder heads with 2.02/1.60 valves, an Edelbrock RPM Air Gap intake manifold, a nodular-iron crankshaft, 4340 steel connecting rods, and moly rings. It also includes specifically designed forged- pistons with wrist pins, that do not go through the oil ring, for superior oil control.
Smeding's 347 crate engine is perfect for those who want more power without sacrificing durability. For instance, it features 9.7:1 compression, so it can run all day long on pump gas with no problems. Plus, to reduce maintenance demands, Smeding uses a hydraulic roller camshaft. There's no valve lash to set, so vehicle owners can treat this engine just like the one in a brand-new vehicle. The street performance engine spins to a maximum rpm of 6,700. It even comes with a two-year warranty.
Smeding sells the Ford GT 347 Extreme stroker crate engine for $5,495. Plus, the company will ship this engine anywhere in the continental U.S. or Hawaii and it comes with a standard 2-year warranty.
Smeding Performance specializes in building reliable, low-maintenance, streetable crate engines. These engines are not rebuilds: All Smeding crate engines feature brand-new engine blocks and brand-new premium components.
The guy said they are probley switching to AFR heads soon..

doin the math in my head..... you would be hard pressed to build this out of an existing motor for the money... and it surely wouldnt have the 2 yr warranty. i say wait till the afr heads hit the mix and buy buy buy :D
forged crank would be great... but that set-up will surely live with a couple hundred horse shot of gogo juice ...after the warranty expires of coarse
the oil ring problem with 347's is solved with this set up too

Yea, it is economical (good for readers) and it has pleanty of power for the track.. plus it is about 80lbs lighter than a Windsor and easier to fit in the engine bay.. sounds good to me..

Oh,
And greed won out.. the Mustang is sold..
So for my troubles I made $2150 on a car I had for 4 days..
Not too shabby.. I used to do this back in my youger days and made some good money but great deals were easier to find bach then.
Going to look at a solid '68 out in the desert on Saturday.. it is ugly but solid and it runs.. Hope to get it for $3300.. or I guess I could pretend I got it for $1300.. lol
I probley could have put more effort into the car and got another $500 but then I would of had to insure and register it and that would have cost me $200.. this was just easy money.
And for those that say "why?" well, the cost for me to do this car or the cost for me to do a cheaper car (with an equal shape body but worse motor, trans, interior and just uglier) would be the same.. When you are going to swap everything out what good is a great running motor?
I do know a lot more about Stangs from crawling around this one for awhile.. lol

Hmm. $537.50 per day. I think it's time for you to start your own used muscle car dealership. Buy yourself a polyester suit and a pinky ring.
Congrats

Yea, but I would need a sign.. any ideas?? :_paranoid
Trust me, if I could do this on a regular basis I would be all over it.. a cash business with little to zero paperwork.. the worst part is dealing with buyers who ask me if the 196x car has AC and air bags.. when I was in my early 20's I did this for extra cash but it was easy to find people that just saw a classic as an old car not worth much. Today, thanks to Overhaulin and Barret Jackson, every yahoo with an old car thinks it is worth eleventy billion dollars because it is old. Still some deals out there though.

Well it seems like you have a knack for it. Maybe someday. Can you work the buy and sell of this car into the "Mustang Project" introduction in PHR?

I think I will mention it in the story.. sometimes it is a good way to "property ladder" your way up to a better car (or more car funds)..
Still, I'm no Jagarang.. lol

i hear that..... i found a 29 tudor sedan just up the street from me... been in the back of the barn for the better part of 50 years it looks like.... its nice, actually too nice and complete for anything i would wanna do with it. i asked the guy how much he wanted for it.... thinkin i could get it for 1-2K and flip it.
the guy asked if i saw the episode of monster garage where they turned one just like it into a rat rod.... and said according to that build tally at the end... his car should be worth 25Kish
just to be a nice guy... i offered him $350 cash for it, gotta love giving people a reality check. so it looks like the car will sit there another 50 years.
as for the sign.... "SNAZZY STEVE'S HONEST AUTO SALES" then for the slogan ya gotta have something really classy... like.."i wouldnt sell anybody a deathtrap without my mother-in-law test driving it first  "
